Representative or Senator?

I'm not there yet, but after that 5- or 6-month mark, one of the options is, of course, contacting a congressman. Does Senate versus House make any difference? Maybe it's just a matter of who's busier or lazier? Should you contact all three people just to be safe, or would the CO put your file back at the bottom of the stack if they got three calls in a week?

Doesn't matter. Whichever is easier for you to contact

You can try either one. There will usually be a staff person that is familiar with immigration issues. It rarely makes a difference, as all they can do is make an official inquiry on your behalf. They cannot move the process along any faster, although pulling your file out of the queue may change when it gets looked at again if it is sitting on someone's desk awaiting action. You take your chances.

We contacted mu Congressman, who has a staffer that handles immigration questions. We figured a congressional district has fewe constituents, and maybe lower voloume, therefore better attention. It worked out for us. Good luck.

My first time through, 6 years ago, everything went on hold due to recent IMBRA implementation. I talked to assistants from both senators and two congressmen. I don't know if they had an impact, but our total process from mailing my petition to visa approval was about 5 1/2 months, which was a big deal as my fiance at the time was 8 months pregnant the day she arrived in the US, 2 days after visa approval.

I believe speaking to them can help, but I think they need a reason to be able to do anything. Like a late approval, or in my case a pregnancy.

Best of luck.
