No you do not need their birth certificates. AND you do not submit any documents in the mail with the DS- forms. All documents go to the interview. Read your letter or a copy of it in Post #18. It says something about not submitting documents unless asked. That would only happen if you were lacking a document at the interview. Then they would send you away without approval to get what was missing and submit via their DX Secure courier service along with your passport.

Thank you Nich-Nick, so even though the DS 156 form states that I need to attach the birth certificates of all children listed I neither attach them nor need to take them with me to the interview? Sorry to be pedantic i just dont want to get anything wrong on the day. It did seem a little strange that they want to see the certificates of children that are not going to be moving with me at any time!

All documents and the passport photos go in hand to the interview. They will be "attached" to your application forms and file on interview day before you go back to the interviewing officer's window.

As far as the birth certificates for kids not getting visas, we didnt need them and nobody else in the last 5 years has said they got sent away for not having them. So I can't think of a reason to take them for the purpose of your visa. The only reason I can think of why it says that is maybe in the case of "follow to join" benefits where your kids are eligible for K2 based on your K1. So maybe they mean not immigrating with you in the sense that they will go next year after they finish school or something. I really don't know. Take them and report back how it goes. Print that page and ask the officer to explain why it says that if they don't want them. That's the only way we can help one another. So now you have an assignment. :)

Hello, first time poster here.

I just rang the DOS about my fiancee's K1 case at London, we submitted both the packet 3 stuff and the medical results around the 23rd of may, and everything was logged by the embassy on the 5th of June.

The guy at the DOS confirmed that everything had been logged and told me the the case was in "administrative processing". When i asked what this meant, he said "they are just working on the case".

Does this indicate that we are just in line, waiting for an interview date? Or is there some other "processing" that occurs after the documents have been logged?

Thanks!

No other processing I am aware of. I don't think anybody even looks at your Information details until that minute between when you are called back to the interview window and the time it takes you to walk to the back room. I think it means you are in line, waiting for a scheduler.

Hi there.

Just wondering if anyone can clear up some confusion I've been having about the K1 process in London. I sent my forms of last week from the old 'packet 3' and also attended my medical last Wednesday (5th June) and that was all ok.

I figured that I would probably be able to ring up to book an appointment at the embassy now that I had sent off everything required for the interview but I was told that an interview would be scheduled by the embassy in due course. The guy I spoke to told me that he couldn't even confirm that the packed of forms I sent had been received as they will not be opened until the embassy schedule a date. I was told this will take approximately 6 weeks from the time I sent the forms, so about 4 weeks from now. But what if the forms were not received by the embassy for whatever reason? How would I know?

Does anyone know of any tips that we could try to use to speed the process for an interview up? I have read that email is the best way to contact them, but I'm not exactly sure what steps to try and take.

Also, can I just confirm that for the affidavit of support at this stage we will not require a co-sponsor? My fiancé has completed hers and we have a cosponsor lined up but I believe we don't need that until the AOS but just wanting to double check.

Thanks.

Go up two posts above yours and read grobus who knows his document ts are received by calling DOS.

If your fiancé doesn't earn enough, then yes a co-sponsor will be needed. Form I-134.

Post 6 in this thread outlines what has to happen before an interview. Sounds like you've done that so you wait until they get to you.

Nich-Nick I'm about to send my DS-2001 form and cover letter to state that I'm ready to enter the USA.

At the bottom of the sheet it states send this "along with" DS-230 Part 1 but I sent it with the response to my package 3, should I send it again? Or just send the DS-2001/Cover Letter.

Thanks

Keep in mind it is a generic DOS form for the whole world. It isn't London specific in it's text or notes. It isn't even K1 specific because that note is a IR1/CR1 note. London asks for a cover letter letter because they want more info for their scheduling than the DOS form provides. There used to be a checklist for documents and blanks to fill in for date of wedding, etc. Now they use this boilerplate form.

So disregard the note because London has requested your forms be sent first, and this reserved for after you have your needed documents in hand.

Thank you, also in my cover letter I'm stating a wedding date, though I did not state that I had plans for one in my forms. Just that I will look to enter the USA on 31st July. Should I leave that out? (and) Do you think (with everything being in order) I will get my visa before above dates? I'm sending my DS-2001 tomorrow.

I'm worried that the consulate may not have received my forms. I checked the status of and it states Ready. But I was looking at the mailing address for my DS-2001 and I nearly put the Immigrant Visa Branch address post code: W1K 6AH. Not the as stated K1 address with the post code W1A 2JB. This is concerning me as I'm not sure which I put the Packet 3 response in. It may havebeen the former. What would happen if this was the case? This is a huge concern.

No problem with adding a date. We made up one a month earlier than what we wished for. No clue how long they are taking. I'm past studying timelines. If you give a date, then they have something to try to accommodate for you if not too busy. But there's a lot seeking tourist and student visas this time of year.

Hi ZC117,

Not sure where you got the postcode "W1A 2JB" from, but the offical page for K1 here:

http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

clearly states to send it to the "Contact and Mailing Address" on the right hand side of that page. This is W1K 6AH - the one you think is wrong! Send youDS 2001 there, and hopefully you used this for your packet 3! (Its also the address on the top of the packet 3 letter!!)

This is the correct postcode - I sent all my forms to this last week and have heard from DOS they got received OK. It could be that the other one that you say is the K1 address is an outdated address? I remember reading that 2JB was an old address... I wouldn't use it!

BTW, I forgot to add - if you are worried call DOS and ask.

its 202-663-1225 in the US (+1 202 663 1225). After you call, press 1 then 0. You will get an operator and if you ask them for an update on your case, they will tell you if the forms were received which might give you peace of mind!

I called from Skype by the way, which makes it incredibly cheap, certainly way more so than calling the expensive UK Operator Assisted phone service!
