ok, 3 quick questions:

1. Can the entire medical exam and vaccinations be completed in one day?

2. Why do you have to bring the police clearance check to the medical exam? I thought it was sent to the NVC before the medical exam took place.

3. If a passport has to be renewed, must it be renewed before the interview or before entrance to the US?

Thanks! x

1. Most get immunizations free (or try to) on NHS, so a trip to your GP's shot nurse would be in advance of the medical. If you want to pay Knightsbridge clinic prices, all can be done in one day. If you are healthy and never had a serious illness, then one day will do it. But if you take meds, have high blood pressure, depression, had cancer, diabetes, or heart diseas for example, they would request that you get a statement describing your condition in detail from your GP. That could delay your results from being passed on to the embassy.

2. This a K1 thread so all in here do not send off their police certificate to NVC like you getting a spouse visa. If you're not to that point yet then make a photocopy to take to the medical before sending off. The mental health (which includes addictions) component of the medical exam was updated in recent years to put the onus on the doctor to gather any other evidence they may need to help them evaluate. That's when Knightsbridge started asking for the police report. My guess is arrests for drugs or drunken pub brawls would give them a good hint that they may need further evaluate the mental health component like requesting info from your GP or even requesting a private psych evaluation. (they did that to one I can recall. Another was tested for drugs on the spot.)

3. Yes, they won't put a visa in a passport with less than 6 months to expiration. Their website says 6 in one place and 8 in another. Read the list of documents needed for interview on the London website and it will tell you about that.

I have my interview tomorrow at 8.30am and I am sick with nerves. I'm checking and re-checking that I have all the relevant documents (I do), and that I know all the possible questions (I do), but I am still so, so anxious!

It's best to arrive at the embassy 30mins before the appointment time, right?

Good luck tomorrow! If you need to drop things off at Gould's before you enter the embassy, definitely allow time for that along with knowing there will be however many people queued up already to get in.

Luckily my mother is coming with me, so I am leaving everything with her before I go in, other than my folders, and £1 so I can call her from a payphone when I am finished!

What's the average waiting time from receipt of forms by the embassy to interview, anyone know?

Embassy received my medical results and I sent the forms 3 weeks ago, but embassy has informed me 3-4 weeks, 4-6 weeks, and 2 months and can't seem to get an answer :bonk:

In our case, the forms were logged about three weeks after they were sent. My then-fiancé received a letter in mid-September for the interview that was scheduled for late October. So, about 56 days from the time of sending the "packet 3" forms to interview.

What's the average waiting time from receipt of forms by the embassy to interview, anyone know?

Just a quick one as I just posted this somewhere else directed to Nich-Nick but others opinions would be great as well...

Medical on the 21st Dec ----- I have all forms ready including the DS-2001 and wish to send them all the same day as my medical BUT as I mentioned, I fly to New Zealand on the 25th Dec and return on the 13th January. What if they assign me an interview for the time I am away and I miss it?? I don't really want to send the documents after I'm back in case my medical results are just lying around (or get forgotten), but at the same time I would like an interview assigned to me asap.

Send all of the forms except the DS-2001 on the same day as your medical. Then, when you get back, mail the DS-2001, or have someone mail it for you in early January just prior to your return from NZ. The embassy will be closed for the holidays and it looks as if regular hours resume on January 2, so it's likely not much will be done until you're nearly ready to head back.

Sounds like a good plan...now why didn't I think of that! Dumb blonde strikes again! Everyone is so helpful & I'm super happy I found this site but you & Nich-Nick have provided me with some excellent answers! Hopefully I won't need anymore advice until my interview! I just pray everything with the I-134 goes alright! THANK YOU

Slightly different idea than LCL, but both are good ideas. Pick one and get on with Christmas merrymaking.instead of worrying.

I was approved today, and I am over the moon.

I'd like to say a massive 'thank you' to anyone that replied to my inane questions, and to everyone on this messageboard - it has been a god send and I honestly would have been lost without all the tips that are in these many pages.

Nich-Nick, thank you especially.
