London 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread

Not really much you can do until you receive the petition approval. With November and December being riddled with holidays, I suspect you may have encountered delays even if you were still in the UK during that time period. Assuming your petition approval notice arrives by the end of November, you'd be waiting a few weeks for it to get to and through the NVC. If that does occur while you're in the US and you get the LND#, you can call Knightsbridge and get the exam scheduled for after you return.

I take it that the Embassy will not schedule the Visa interview until they have received the details os the medical interview (there appears to be some confusion on that, from what I have read - e.g. I have read that you need to allow at least five days for the results to get to the Embassy - why would you 'need to allow' if you can't get an interview until they have the results?). If I have the case number, can I schedule the medical? Or is there other information or paperwork that I need to wait to receive and take to the medical, other than the Police certificate and completed medical questionnaire? Slightly silly question, probably, but is there anyway I can have a medical in the US with one of their approved doctors or can it only be done with Knightsbridge doctors?

Correct, the embassy will not consider you eligible for an interview until all DS forms, including the DS-2001 readiness form, and the results from the medical exam have been logged in their system. The "need to allow" comes into play if you opt to mail all of the DS forms (including DS-2001) listing the medical exam date. Some time it so they mail the forms right before they have their exam in the hopes of speeding up things.

Once the petition is approved and sent to the NVC, you'll need the LND number before you can schedule the medical exam. This can only happen at Knightsbridge in the UK. For the medical exam, you'll need to bring your police certificate, a passport-sized photo (either UK or US-sized), your passport, any vaccination records so they can be recorded by the Knightsbridge doc, the completed questionnaire, and of course, the £227 fee.

To sum it up I guess I'm asking what does the form you fill out for the mail look like? is there only one option? can you pay like 500 USD more to get it faster?

DX Secure normally delivers in one day after they are handed over the visa, but there is no control over when the visa will be printed and handed over. With a Thursday interview, there is the weekend taking two of your days. Likely it will be the following Tues or Wed, at the earliest. Sometimes I wonder if paying for before 8am delivery might add a day since they will owe you money if they don't make it. Say you lived somewhere kinda remote. They would think, there's no way we can get to that address before 8am tomorrow, so we'll just send it on to the closest town and have it delivered the day after by 8am. But if you didn't have a time, they might show up at 7 pm the day after it was handed over for delivery.

Just make sure you read everything on the website and click all the "for more information" links to double check that you have everything right. Some of the most prolific posters on here in the past have gotten to their interviews and lacked something clearly explained on the website. Then they are delayed weeks because they "didn't know" they had to pay, bring the appointment letter, have their parent names on the birth certificate, bring court records, sign the I-134, get a certain police certificate from Australia....to name a few. If the beneficiary is Muslim or from Pakistan, India, or the Middle East, don't count on the visa until January or beyond, even if they hold British citizenship.

How about a New Year's Eve wedding? Always a festive time on your anniversary.

Hi Anna Grant, if going by my timeline which is a bit similar to others here, you may not have much to worry about regarding your time away and medicals, even if you get your NOA2 while away. The 'need to allow' simply means it takes about 5 days for your medical report to be compiled by Knightsbridge Doctors, sent to, received and logged by the embassy. This is still faster than the time it takes them to log the rest of the forms (3 to 4 weeks)

For e.g, I got my NOA2 sept.end; called NVC and got my case number 2nd week October, sent out my forms (Recorded next day delivery)3 days later, my medicals (they sometimes have quick appointment slots) on 19th October. My forms had been delivered to the embassy before I attended my medicals but my medicals got logged the very next week, and the forms just last week (over 3 weeks after they received them!)... And an interview date for 2nd January! :( (at least you get to spend Christmas & New Year with your fiance, some of us will miserably have to make do with Skype :crying: )

In all, even if you get your NOA2 before you leave or while in the US & fill and send off the forms, I don't think you'll have much gap between them logging your stuff & your medicals once you come back (you can book that once you get your case number). Hope this helps! Good luck!

I'm really, really sorry that you will be Skypeing for Christmas only. Being apart at family times just sucks. I know that I'm very fortunate (if the US let me in!) to be spending the holidays with my fiance.

I just wish I could get my NOA2 and case number and schedule my medical before I leave. However, that now looks very unlikely.

We got our interview date yeaterday!!! Just thought I'd let you all know that we contacted my fiancé's senator and they contacted the London Embassy and from the day of them 'processing' our medical results we waited 3 days for the letter to come through and be allocated an interview date. It's really worth a try if anyone else is about to have their medical or are waiting for their interview date. I'm not sure if it was luck or if because the senator got in touch that made the difference but I guess anything can help. Unfortunately, the interview has been set for January 7th, 2 days after our wedding date (despite sending proof of wedding bookings and 15 friends and family flight confirmations), but we have emailed to ask if there is any chance it can be changed, although I doubt that will be able to happen. This is a long process but I can't wait to get to America and marry my fiancé. The end is in sight.

That is great news - I'm glad they were able to bring your interview forward.

I have another question of my esteemed, knowledgeable fellow posters here.

We're still waiting for our NOA2. And I fly to the US in December for Christmas on an ESTA. If we receive notification from the US Embassy at my address in the UK whilst I'm away, are there any documents we need to send them or is it purely completion of forms and having the supporting documents are only required for the interview? From what I've read on the process on here, it would suggest it is completion of forms and indicating that we've gathered all the documentation we need. We had intended completing the forms and posting them from the US.

It's just that I don't really want to bring any documents like birth certificates into the US when I travel in December. If my luggage is searched, they may consider that having that kind of document on me might suggest intention to stay and try to AOS whilst in the US.

The only items to be mailed to the embassy will be the DS forms: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

The supporting documentation, http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html, is what you will take to the interview. As noted earlier, the embassy won't consider you eligible for an interview until all forms, including the DS-2001 readiness sheet, and the results from the medical exam have been received and logged. While you're in the US, you can get the I-134 and supporting evidence from your fiancé along with the other items you'll need to gather and take with you to the interview. See page 1 of this thread.

Thank you so much for the information, still debating weather or not to choose before 8am. We e-mailed the embassy (called first), and asked for an earlier date because we had set our wedding date for December 11th, and they sent us a new appointment for November 28th!! So now it's okay if it takes a day later but still thinking about it.

6 weeks - seemed to be a good idea as I was with CSC and expected to have been able to have the medical before I left. The best laid plans...

I have been using the K1 Process Flowchart to try to work out when things might happen:

[*]Go to your NHS doctor and get the immunizations you will need for Adjustment of Status. You can get a K1 visa without having any shots, but you will need them before AOS. It’s really wise to take care of it before getting to the US so you can aviold civil surgeon hassles and $$$. Many NHS doctors will do them for free, but they are not obligated to do so for immigration purposes. If you had these shots as a child, Tdap/Td must be no longer than 10 years ago or you have to do them again. Get the shots documented by your doctor to take to your visa medical exam. Here’s the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

Td or Tdap - Maybe not available in the UK, so get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS

MMR (if born in 1957 or later) Get a second shot 4 wks later if you have time

Varicella – Not routinely given in the UK ; a history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.

Influenza - During flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

Hi Nich-Nick, you were so great at answering an important question I had a while back about the MMR jab so was wondering if you (or anyone else here of course) could answer this one for me too. I'm really sorry if it's already been asked and answered before :/

I went to the nurse last week to ask about my immunisation history and took a printed copy of this page http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3384cc5222ff5210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=6abe6d26d17df110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD

She seemed confused at a couple of these requirements, mainly the pertussis one which she told me is whooping cough, and so I thought I would double check this thread. The ones you have listed are not the same as the ones from the link - pertussis and also Hep B aren't there - have the requirements changed?
