You know people are saying 'Police Certificate and copy'? Do they mean just a photocopy of it? Or a further official Police Certificate? I thought that the Police Certificate was handed over at the medical? Does the doctor keep it and send it to the consulate or do they give it back to you after the medical?

I know I am far from having the interview yet but I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row in advance (I do feel like I'm quacking up though - and making awful puns - sorry).

You take the police certificate to the Knightsbridge exam, but they will give it back to you. You should take a photocopy of the police certificate along with the original with you to the interview.

Yeah, just means a photocopy of it. The Police Certificate and a copy is also required for the medical - they take both but give the original back.

Here's my take on it. Two original police certificates are not needed. Some order a spare because they are cheap. I understand your confusion. I guess people should make their lists-- 1 birth certificate (and photocopy), 1 police certificate (and photocopy).... But we talk in shortcuts so often.

The medical people look at it but don't keep it. They dont even have to see the original. I know spouse visa applicants who mailed theirs off to NVC and only gave the medical people a photocopy. They want to see if there are any incidents of drugs, alcohol, etc to help with their challenge to evaluate mental health which includes addictions. Drunk and disorderly would lead to more questioning about alcohol use, for example.

Not sure what people are getting back these days from the embassy. My husband took a photocopy which they filed and handed back his original certificate. I have heard others report that the embassy wanted to keep the original police certificate.

And to clarify the photocopies of supporting documents-- If you want your original back, then provide a photocopy. Otherwise they will keep the original. They don't go make photocopies for the file. Saves them time and money to make that your responsibility.

Examples of things you might want back:

Birth certificate

Divorce decree

Military or court records

Pay stubs

Bank/financial statements

Any translations of documents not in English.

Police certificate ( but there's no other time in immigration you will use it)

Employer letter (because we used the same one for AOS) some report embassy kept theirs.

Things we didn't want back so didn't submit photocopies:

I-134 (had saved on the computer and could print again)

Tax return (had saved on the computer and could print more from TurboTax)

Basically don't give away your one and only original of something you will use again. Provide a photocopy for the file.

Which number do you call for information about your interview date? (earlier in this thread people mentioned calling and finding out that they're interview eligible)

Paul had his medical October 9th and sent his readiness packet on October 12th and we still haven't heard anything, I realize there is still time before I should start freaking out lol but on the packet's cover letter we told them that our wedding date was set for november 23rd (and I also realize that they don't have to pay attention to that lol) but I keep waking up at night thinking omg what if they booked the interview before we got the letter!? (meaning the interview is set for the 4th and we get the letter on the 6th)

Thanks everyone!

Louise

Also another question,

I started a job a few months ago and it's going really well, and it's good too because we don't have anyone to be a co-sponsor, also luckily Paul's income will continue after he comes to the US which I've learned he can add to my income to make up for any differences in the 125% poverty guideline.

Heres the question, this is my first job, and the first year doing it, so I don't have any tax returns, how do I prove my yearly income? Or even come up with my yearly income?

Also paul has filled taxes for last year but this year's won't be done yet and so it won't show how good his income is right now, how do we prove it without tax returns?

Thank you!

Call DOS and ask if your interview has been confirmed and that you are on the list.

You can get into the interview without your letter, they will just check the list outside asking for passport ID.

When I got home from London the letter was on the doormat, if we hadn't called DOS I would have missed the interview.

Good luck

First off. There is not actually a wage level or percentage over poverty level set in law for a non-immigrant visa which k1 is. The things thrown about are the rules for an I-864 Affidavit of Support. You will have to do one of those for Adjustment of Status so looking to reach those standards is a good thing. But for the visa you have to convince the officer that Paul will not become a public charge prior to getting a greencard and job. DOS notes often say 100% is a good standard to look for.

so I don't have any tax returns, how do I prove my yearly income? Or even come up with my yearly income?

Again, the tax return requirement in not written into I-134 requirements and London will approve without one. Do you get a paycheck? Can you look at that paycheck and figure out what you would have if you added up a year's worth of that paycheck (before taxes are held out)? That's your current yearly income. Some people are paid monthly or bi-weekly or twice a month or hourly and the hours differ each week. Get out pencil, paper, and a calculator and use your scenario to come up with a yearly income based on your paychecks.

The American embassy has no use for a UK tax return really. He can show how much he has in the bank. Have you tried to think about how a total stranger would know what he does, and how much in US dollars he will make, and how it will be possible to continue in the US? Is there somebody than can attest to that in writing like the person who pays him the money? Can he legally do that work once in the US, even without work authorization or greencard? Build a case to show them some hard evidence of how and how much....something other than his own word for it.

Okay I called DOS

doesn't look like amazing news but we're still hopeful. The guy I talked to, James, said that interviews are booked for the current month up until the 10th of the current month then after that they go for the next month available. We were hoping Paul would be out here for the 23rd (for some reason the person said theres a note on our case for the 17th as our wedding date but we told them the 23rd so that's weird). Looks like we'll be hoping for Christmas now unless we get an appointment tomorrow for some time in november.

I am after a little advice.

I have seen that the common question asked at the interview is "have you been in trouble with the law". My UK Police check came back with "no trace" as I have only ever had a couple of speeding fines.

However when I was in America in August, I was given a citation for consuming alcohol in a public place (long story, I wasn't aware of the restrictions). The Police Officer who issued me this assured me that a citation is the lowest offence, and is in the same bracket as a speeding ticket.

This citation did not show up on my Police Check. Filling in my DS forms I said that I had NOT been in trouble with the law - as the Police Check states.

When I am asked the question at the interview - in your opinion - what would you reply with? Any advice will help - this is the only thing I am worried about for the interview process.

I would answer never in the UK, but you had an incident in America. Tell them you weren't sure how to answer that question and if America counts, then should you modify your answer to correct your misunderstanding? Offer it before you get nailed for misrepresentation. The incident won't keep you from getting a visa, but misrepresentation could come back to seriously bite you. They have FBI checks and such that may have already revealed an American arrest.

This will hopefully be my last plead for help,

I have my medical date and have completed all of the required forms, so now can i send off the packet to the embassy to join the interview queue ?

if so, which forms do i need to send, i'm under the impression they want them all ?

also, is there any examples of what to put on the cover letter anywhere ?

Thankyou :)

All I know is I was told by someone called James that interviews for the current month are scheduled up until the 10th of the current month, then the interviews go to the next available month - that's how I understood it - he also said theres a VERRY small chance that we'd get one - which I guess is because there was only 1 day left at the time because they're not open on weekends.

Good luck!
