Timeline

Hi All -- just got our interview date by calling DOS, and thought I'd share our timeline for others that are waiting as well.

We sent all of the "Packet 3" documents, including DS2001 on August 28. Laura's medical exam was on August 30. After patiently waiting a couple of weeks I called DOS yesterday (Sept 18). They told me that their system showed everything logged as being received one day earlier, Monday, September 17, but no interview date yet. I called again today (Sept 19) and they did have an interview date in their system: October 3, 2012... only 2 weeks away!

We still haven't received a formal letter, of course, but it sounds like they assigned the date today and we'll hopefully get the official notice shortly. I am a little surprised at the close timing between now and the interview date (we didn't mention a specific wedding date or travel plans, so I assumed there'd be at least a 4 week spread), but very happy and grateful about this news. (And really hoping the rep at DOS was looking at the correct file! :D )

It's usually 4 weeks from when they have your medical and forms. I think they had them logged at the start of september, hence your interview date of October 3rd. I said in my covering letter I was available for an interview date at short notice and got 3 days notice! :)

Hi all.

I feel this is a stupid question, but I am now at the stage where I want to triple check EVERYTHING - the last thing I want is a delay because we failed to do something correctly.

Does the I-134 get SENT to the Embassy by us, along with DS2001 etc, or do I bring them along to the interview with my proof of engagement, birth certificate etc?

My fiancee is over in the UK in 2 weeks, and then I go back with her 2 weeks later, and her father is a support so it would be useful for us all to fill in the forms together!

May 20th 2011 - Meet in Chicago through mutual friends.
May 28th 2011 - Start relationship.
Feb 26th 2012 - Engaged!

Did you read. London's instructions? http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

That tells what to mail in.... The DS-xxxx forms and nothing else attached. Step Two has a link to the documents that will be taken to the interview. Affidavit of support ( I-134) is on that list. Proof of engagement isn't on the list or asked about in London.

I noted it wasn't listed along with the DS forms, but missed the link in Step Two, hence me asking the question.

Proof of engagement, as ever, is a backup. I am aware it is not asked for.

Cheers for pointing out the link, very useful.

Hi all,

I've got a vaccine question for you. Alan's GP insists that he only needs one MMR shot and said that he will write a letter explaining this for Knightsbridge. I just checked the CDC site and it says 1-2 shots for adults. Is this going to be a problem for Knightsbridge/AOS? I'll send him for his second dose if he needs it and make sure he insists on getting it.

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

British GPs sometimes say something different because they go by UK standards of immunization. Some will not go against the rules they go by. The adjudicator who will approve Alan's greencard will go by US standards. You draw your conclusions from there and make a decision.

If four weeks pass since the previous MMR, Knightsbridge will not mark the waiver column of insufficient time interval. So likely an incomplete DS-3025 in my opinion. If his doctor details why another MMR would be specifically harmful to Alan like allergies to the components of the vaccine, pregnancy, etc then that's a different waiver. One of the vaccines may have egg components in it so documented egg allergy would be an example. All the very detailed medical contraindications and vaccine components for each shot can be found by digging on the CDC website. I've read them before but can't quote from memory. It's like pages per vaccine.

And as stated previously, if four weeks have not passed then a waiver for dose 2 and it never is needed for immigration.

That's what I thought and was hoping you'd repeat so we could get this cleared up before he goes for his medical. I'll have him explain it to his GP and pray that he'll do the shot so they don't have to at the medical. He's got the medication in a vial from the pharmacy so I don't know why they won't inject. I told him to bring the CDC requirements with him but have a feeling he did not. The US site is a bit confusing. It actually says 1 or 2 are recommended. 1 for most people and 2 for specific groups and if you plan to travel internationally so that's why I was confused if he really needed the second. If he can't get it done by his GP, I'll just make sure he gets it in London. Hate to pay more due to a stubborn doctor, and really want to avoid a CS here in the states. Thanks Nich-Nick!

The second dose is on the list because something like 5 percent (?) aren't immune on just one dosage. He is likely immune, but it's another hoop to jump through or face a stubborn Knightsbridge nurse who fills out the US form. It's kinda one of those areas where some get two and others get one based on dates. Same with flu shots--go to Knightsbridge this week and no flu shot required. Those next week fall into flu season. There's always a line drawn somewhere. It reminds me of when my daughter said:

""Mom, will you go to the theater and buy my movie ticket because it's 17 and over"

"No"

"But I'll be 17 next week"

"And you can go to the movie next week"

It didn't really matter to me if she saw the movie, but it was just another way to show that in our family, we follow rules and obey the law. In Alan's case, he's stuck between differing sets of rules.

Is it wise to book the medical 2 months before you are available for the interview?

We are expecting NVC to receive our case any day now, and once we have the all important LND I would like to book the medical ASAP to get it out the way. If they are able to get me in before I leave for the States for 6 weeks, should I take it, or do I run the risk of the three packages (medical results, DS2001, DS230 etc) not being linked together?

I know this is all hypothetical, but to get someone else's thoughts would be great.

I notice you're at the CSC. Look at my sig and how long it took for USCIS to get our petition to the NVC. Perhaps you'll have better luck and it won't sit in the mailroom for a month. Do you have the police certificate and photos ready for the medical exam? Are you ready to submit the other DS forms except for the DS-2001? If you're able to get the exam done and send on the DS forms (again minus DS-2001) before you leave for the U.S., that would be the best option. Then, as soon as you return, mail in the DS-2001.

Thanks! There are actually a few of the other England February filers who also got October dates. It's just a relief to have a specific date to look forward to after all of this indefinite waiting.
