read the post from summer. i think it would be interesting to hear the side of the story from the people at the embassy i get the feeling it a very one sided log of the events.

The K1 visa application is the biggest thing i have done in my life. the most important thing. i have spent hours and hours reading this forum and the embassy websites and going over the forms. there so much stuff I don't know and thanks to the good people on this forum we cover each others blanks.....and even then theres still things missing but theres some very very obvious things that everybody knows like you need a sponsor and don't open the envelope!

i feel sorry for her but can you forgive ignorance/stupidity to that degree. its obvious that english is not her first language but you have to have your head in the clouds to not know. is a reason why we are going through everything we are going through. for every one of us that has met there soul mate and want to begin a life with them, theres some guy who is faking it to move to the US. when i first started this a work colleague told me about an american Gay woman he knew who had married and a gay guy from england who wanted to be with his US boyfriend and they faked the whole process. for this reason there are strict rules in place. based on my experience so and reading others who have interviews i find it difficult to believe that they were not told to open the envelope....and even if they were not they didn't read any of the information thats provided on this site and others???

i genunley feel sorry for her but i think its right for the embassy to come down hard. it wouldn't be fair on the 1000s of us who follow the rules if when somebody breaks one of the biggest ones, there let off.

She just posted that she's Iranian which answers a lot of questions so no, not English as her first language and also might be subject to additional background screening which explains why the consular officer was scrutinising things so hard. Also the length of time between the envelope arriving and them reacting to it. Plenty long enough to make forgeries or reveal sensitive information.

Actually, isn't the envelope stamped in big red letters "DO NOT OPEN"?

Yes I can forgive ignorance and stupidity. After everything, you can get caught up in the excitement, but if there is one thing this process has taught any of us, it's to read, re-read and re-read again any instructions. I can't imagine the Visa package would come back without a guidance letter that says 'Don't do this'.

This should all serve as a useful reminder to anyone in this process. Read the instructions and if you make a mistake, take action STRAIGHT away.

We're all sitting here saying that in most cases you don't need a lawyer, but if you're unsure then ask for help!

And don't ask for the consular officers name! That's probably what pushed her over the edge to deny. The person wasn't just being an inconvenience, or being stupid. The person was now asking for sensitive information, and we know that many of the American security policies rely on overreaction.

I haven't posted for a few days guys as I have been feeling the stress & anxiety that Photomile & Patsgal have been experiencing. I want to say so much but then I think dwelling on it just makes it worse. The only comfort I feel is that we're all in the same boat & none of us are alone. I agree with Robert that we have all worked so hard to get this far & people that don't follow the rules do need to be penalised. We have all got everything in order though & know what's required of us. I have a strong feeling that as long as you have everything you need & evidence to support any question they will throw at you, we'll all be fine. It's very sensitive stuff that the officers are dealing with too. It's appalling if this supposed mean lady really is THAT rude, but then Sunshine said she had a lovely interview, so it just makes me think that there's a reason for her behvaiour. Stu also said she wasn't rude & she does have a right to ask for more info if it's applicable.

I really wouldn't stress out too much. Everyone here has gone over the rules and requirements again and again, and from what I've seen, are well prepared. I would just take some pictures and a few e-mails or skype logs, and triple check that all the documents are in order. I don't think mine and my fiance's interview will be for a few more weeks, but I wish everyone with upcoming interviews lots of luck :) Not that I think you'll need it.

Hi,

This site is an absolute God send and has so much helpful information on it. I think I'd still be waiting for my interview without it. However when you read some posts, they can make you really stressed out, anxious and paranoid. My fiance told me to stop going on VJ home page and reading stories from other countries as I was getting stressed about them! :) You have to remember that every case is different, all you can do is prepare as much as you can and take the evidence you think you'll need with you.

I had two great journey buddies, stu4lee and kittylondon and it really helped me to be able to chat with them most days, leading upto my interview.

Thanks Sunshine. My fiance also thinks I should be banned from reading VJ lol. I told him it has been helping us so much though but yes the negative stories are giving me sleepless nights. Just no point worrying about stuff that hasn't happened yet though is there. Keep calm & carry on! good.gif

agree, just stick to London and the stress isn't to bad. unlike allot of you guys i am not going to be moving within 15 minutes of my interview so i think that takes some of the stress away but it still is. to be honest i worry more about things like not being able to find a job and support Elora than about the visa not coming off.

even talking about what blender to get for our apartment was getting me excited this morning. i am flying out to vegas on saturday to see Elora and i am going apartment viewing while she is at work. when i come home my interview should be within a few weeks and it will be 3 1/2 months until i move. Elora should be coming to london in between as well. its getting exciting.

when i started this process i read this about K1 and it has kept me sane during the whole process.

"The great majority of K-1 visas applied for are granted. In 2009, 95 percent of the K-1 visa applications were approved: out of 29,127 K-1 visas applied for, 27,678 were issued, and only 2715 were refused."

Yup everyone goes through AP. Administrative Processing has two types, the first is the one everyone goes through and it's just the name they give to filling out forms. Processing by an Administrator. The other is the advanced processing which takes ages
