DOS are the bomb!!!

I just called and got given my interview date of 27th July!!

Once I get my letter I'm going to call for an earlier one, as it's olympic opening day and it's going to be nuts! And its my daughters birthday..

A sense of relief just knowing you're moving through the system though!!!

To apply for a change of interview date to an earlier one you have to send an email to londoniv@state.gov with a subject heading of your case number.

In the email you then state that you wish to have an earlier interview date and then give your reasons why etc and then you can also suggest certain days that work best for you.

I just sent mine too!! My original date was my daughters 5th birthday..I'm sure she would have loved to stand in a queue for 3 hours :) Hopefully we'll both hear by next week with a successful change! I'd even go for Friday 13th at this point!

Hello - starting to fill out the i-134 and I have what amounts to a silly question...

I am trying to enter Sid's UK address, and it only allows me 2 letter under state - is there an abbreviation for Kent that is acceptable? All the important info, and this is what I'm stressing over. :P

And as I was reading through to see if this had already been posted, I must say THANK YOU to all that have taken the time to respond in such detail. It's a relief to have this information so readily accessible from other who have gone through the process. Your time is most appreciated!

I think I would leave off state because England doesn't have states or see if Kent will fit into the city box like "Smalltown, Kent". Kinda weird they would make a form for worldwide use with a character limited field that suits US addresses but not necessarily international ones.

I've never heard this problem before so looked at my own saved I-134. I did put Oxford in the state field and it appears to have room for 3 more characters. But when I started adding characters the field kept expanding. I had a later version of the I-134 saved so tried it. It would accept 9 characters.

Ok, sorry I'm confused

The DS-156K says "The following documents must be attached", and then makes reference to things like the financial support information and birth certificate and evidence of engagement to your fiancée.

I thought people were not sending that with the return packet and just taking those to interview?

Also, aside from the DS2001, theres nowhere on any of these forms where it says "please enter your A number of embassy case reference number". So, how do they marry these forms up? Are people submitting cover letters with the first set of forms that get sent and including their LND numbers? (Also assuming that the LND number IS the case reference number)

Finally... expiration dates. Two of the forms needed show expiration dates of today. Searching through the forums I found some information saying "They don't expire, that date is just the date the form needs to be reviewed" and some saying "Well I got told my forms have expired and therefore I had to submit new ones", does anyone know which one it is as I'm hoping to send these forms on Monday or Tuesday?

I assume recorded delivery won't be a problem either?

Phwew ok.

Take to interview is what LONDON tells you to do. They will "attach" in your file on that day. No need to prove engagement. Just bring the documents London lists on their website.

They have magical powers?? I suppose it's by your name. I think most people include a cover letter too but you don't have to except with the DS-2001 because they ask you to give more info than the form allows. Yes, 100% the case number starts with LND which stands for London and differentiates it from cases MNL, CDJ, etc.

That would be me who posts they don't expire but are reviewed and maybe replaced if something needs changing. People who used older versions do sometimes get them rejected. The OMB date is not an expiration. To find the newest forms available check them here http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html

I assume recorded delivery won't be a problem either?

Phwew ok.

For your peace of mind, send with a trackable or delivery confirmation. I don't know the UK name for that, but ours went Royal Mail and some kind of confirmation.

Thank you! Putting it in the city field worked - this version will not expand the state field at all. I appreciate the response!

1 - For the DS-156K, I think most people just send the form itself and the "following documents must be attached" means they need those items for the interview and for the form to be approved at the end, meaning, you can't get a visa unless all the supplemental stuff is attached, but the supplemental items aren't required for the form to be logged in their system to get an interview date. I would just follow the instructions on the London website that says they want the forms only, then send the DS-2001 after you have everything to request an interview date, making sure you have all that for the interview. I think it also goes in line with what the packet 3 letter says of "do not send any documents to the embassy unless instructed to do so." That's what we did and didn't have any problem.

2 - We included a cover letter with ours that just had our London case number. It was exactly two sentences, addressed to the London embassy that said "Dear Sir or Madam, Enclosed are the packet three documents for <LND2012xxxxxx>, <beneficiary's name>. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me at email or call me at phone number. Best regards, <<Beneficiary's name>>. We just did that to be more professional and to include the LND case number.

3 - I wouldn't worry about the form expiration date unless you see new ones posted on the website. I work with government forms for my job (import transactions, stuff like that for customs on the business side) and they accept forms that are several years old. We get these same questions from customers and it seems to be the case with any government form that they automatically have an expiration date but no one does anything about it.

4 - We sent the forms through Royal Mail with signature required. I called the Department of State a week later, they said the forms were received and they were waiting on the medical results, so no problem doing it that way.

Hi everyone,

The london embassy received my case last monday and I'm just wondering if I'm ok to post my forms off tomorrow and pay the visa fee, even though I have not received the packet3 letter.

I rang the DOS number on friday and they said my case had been sent to London and was still pending and no packet 3 letter had gone out.

I've got everything ready and had my medical, so I was going to send all the forms, plus the DS-2001 and the covering letter to say I'm ready for the interview.

Thanks for any help.
