I think I read somewhere in a review that they have lockers in a store across the street so he can leave his personal items... not sure.

Possible stupid question alert!

Got my NOA2 a week ago. Currently filling out the DS forms. All but one have expiry dates of 2015- the DS15K has an expiry date for the end of the year. I'll send it in before the expiry date but my medical will be late January at the earliest as I won't be moving til next July. This means that my interview will be February 2014 at the earliest. Will it matter that the form will be expired at the interview, as that's the one I'll have to sign at the interview in front of the consular officer?

Look at it in January then, they wont schedule an interview until they get the medical results, just download the latest version nearer the time.

keep an eye on your dates in case you need nortarised letter of intent from your fiance

Derp. I didn't think of that. Thanks.

Yeah we're definitely going to need that notarised letter of intent- much to his chagrin :P

Suggestion--wait until London notifies you by letter that they are ready for you to apply. Ready on CEAC is kinda generic. You are the applicant and it should be your birthdate, however nobody on the forums has confirmed that worked for them A call to NVC for an Invoice ID number has worked.

When I called to get the number from NVC she said the DOB hasn't seemed to work for anyone. It was easy to get the invoice number and thankfully they don't have super-long hold times.

Hi yes I can also confirm it is not date of birth or anything similar, I called NVC and they gave me both my mine and my son's numbers. I have been working on this form today, for hours it is a bit of a nightmare as it asks for details of petitioner and his relation to the applicant, the only one I could choose was spouse,(there was no fiancee, only spouse, mother, father, uncle etc) I rang the NVC to confirm this would be the option I choose they said yes but I have no idea what one to choose for my son, looks like its back on the phone to them

If it helps I filled out the same form and for my daughter I used the option stepfather. It is a strange form cos the questions don't give you the right options to choose from. Plus to make it all worse there's a huge waiting time for London interview. It's now October and our CEAC has been ready since end of August. If I were you I would brace myself for a little bit more of a wait. Don't have a clue when I will get a interview date yet. My last update on the system was the 10th of September. Hope things speed up soon. But with the current government shut down it mAy only get worse.

Yes the form does take a long time my daughters 18 so I got her to fill out parts of hers. It's not even like she is coming now she is going to be coming in the summer. Since there was lack of information on packet 3 regarding the child I had no choice but to fill it out anywAy. Honestly packet 3 instruction is not very helpful.

Another impact of the shutdown is, once you get to the US, you will not be able to get a Social Security Number - http://www.socialsecurity.gov/shutdown/

I was due to go this week to change my SSN card from my maiden to married name (now that I have my EAD) but will not now be able to do it until the shutdown finishes.

The official line for US Embassies around the world is:

If you need a visa

Because consular services at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world are largely funded by application fees, not annual appropriations, visa applications filed by foreigners wanting to enter the United States will continue to be processed, according to the State Department.

This is in addition to what you said I found this link in reference to shutdown on the London U.S. Embassy Website: http://london.usembassy.gov/ukpapress139.html
