Nich, does the content of that envelope go to the immigration officer at my POE? What do they do with it?

Just to add to what Nich-Nick said, what actually physically happens at POE is that you hand over your large, sealed envelope and passport with the K1 visa pasted onto one of the pages over to the CBP officer. If the CBP officer is experienced with the K1 visa process, they will deal with it themselves. They slit open the envelope carefully with a penknife and look briefly at the contents. They then look at your visa and key lots of stuff into their system from the visa to show that you have entered (and it means you can retrieve your I-94 later for getting your SSN and for AOS - ask the CBP officer about I-94 and they will give you a little leaflet which gives you the website for retrieval - I think it's www.cbp.gov/I94). They then stamp your visa showing 'Admitted' and the date. My CBP officer wrote what appears to be CWOP across my visa. Google suggests this might mean 'Cancelled With Out Prejudice'.

If the CBP officer is not as experienced, then you will go to secondary screening and someone will do it all for you there. I was the last person through passport control, so I thunk that's also why he did mine there and then - I wasn't holding anyone else up.

Getting taken to another room (secondary) is not a bad sign. It's the common procedure at many airports. So don't freak out if you go to the regular guy working the lines and he calls an officer to escort you to a private processing area. That is very normal.

Oh, yes it's very normal. From the reports I've read here, it might be more normal to be taken to secondary than not.

My fiance got taken into that secondary at Newark the last time he came here in December...he was coming for three months and they took him to another floor, grilled him about how much money he had with him to spend 3 months here, how he can afford to do that with work, etc. It went on for a long time...and then of course ended with - "don't think about getting married here". In the almost 4 years we've been together, he's never not left when he said he was going to and he's only done the three month thing that one time..and they are all over him like a hobo on a ham sandwich every.single.time. :D

But that's not the same "secondary" process as a room where they go through the envelope and process new immigrants. It is the way they do that extra paperwork separately to keep the regular lines moving. You won't get grilled at your POE. Anybody who knows their POE airport already can read the process for that airport in the POE reviews. click POE in the menu bar above.

oh I figured it was a bit different..just making kind of a joke that my fiance seems to get grilled pretty hard for just visiting so I won't be surprised if it's the same this time for his luck :D luckily he's not a nervous type like me lol..

great info on the POE - I never noticed those reviews..thanks nich-nick -- going to read some and send to Alex! :)

Can someone please help??? I'm trying to get these things done this weekend & confused about these things.

So my brother is my co-sponsor and he will provide his pay stubs, w2, bank letter, and employer letter is this enough?

What information should the bank letter consist of?

And does does it have to be addressed to the U.S. Embassy London with an address?

Also on I-134 number 11. What do you guys suggest he write if he will help with anything I can't cover. But in reality with my new job I can without him helping me it's just the past two years don't make the mark...

He will live with me and I will provide shelter, food, and $. Should I put that there on my form number 11. or let my brother put that stuff since he is the cosponsor?

Does the assets part apply to me or my brother?

It seems to take about a week from case number at NVC to it being in London. They should have your stuff from NVC by the end of August i would think. You can check it on the CEAC website, just google that and then put in your LND number and it tells you the status and when it was last updated

Nobbie thanks for getting back to me, I looked at the status of it and it's in transit. Thanks for you help!

Thanks so much for your help Nich and AG.

I was wondering, my POE is O'Hare, but when I go over to visit my fiance I usually take an internal/connecting flight(after getting in at O'Hare) to a smaller airport nearer to where he lives. Will this be an issue do you think?

Also, apart from informing HMRC, my bank and the SLC that I'm leaving the U.K, is there anyone else I need to inform and anything else I need to do?

After immigration processing at Ohare, you are done with visas, passports, etc. except as a source of photo id if needed to get you on the next plane. Collect your luggage at Ohare and pass through customs with it. Then recheck it for the regional airport. When you get off the plane there, just walk out of the airport.

Fill out a P-85 to possibly get some tax money back and let the UK know you are gone. Beyond that, inform anybody that may need to contact you...banks, loans, credit cards, outstanding bills, pension funds. My husband left his bank account and maintains a UK credit card still, that debits the UK bank account if he has a bill. Mail from those goes to his Mum.

Jeff and emmy - I also fly into O'hare and then on to Champaign ;) I will make sure I leave WAY more than 3 hours between flights for my entry on K1 - this summer I was taken for secondary screening and ended up running like a mad woman bare foot to the gate and made my flight by the skin of my teeth......!!!

Yes. Very good point. Allow more time before your connecting flight so they can process all your paperwork. Sometimes it's fast like 15-20 minutes and sometimes there could be a bunch needing extra paperwork processed and you have to wait your turn.

I will send my Fiance my sponsorship documentation by monday of next week. Is it okay to go ahead and send the DS-2001 for him to be scheduled for an interview?

I will send my document's express. So I'm thinking they will definitely be there faster than 2 weeks. What is the average time to get an interview so far? How long have you waited since the date of sending DS-2001 if someone can tell me so I can kind of calculate....

Thank you fellow VJ's :)
