Read this page several times - http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

Re: DS-156 When you fill in this form online and follow the instructions a barcode is added to the form and you then print out however many copies of the form you want and mail them (as instructed in the link above). Sames goes for 157 (if you need to) and 156K. But these forms MUST be mailed in and make sure you send two copies where it requests it. Do not presume it uploads it anywhere. These days you don't know what's being nabbed but in this case you are using it to generate paper copies.

I saved a PDF copy of the forms as well.

Thanks I have read it and made guides of my own. :) I was asking about the info I put on the DS-156 form it will populate all my information and create a unique id for us so when they scan it they can see all our info we have filled in...? Asking more of it's purpose... that's why I imagine it's there for to self populate in their system but of course yes; I was planning on making lots of copies of each and everything I send.

Thank you! :)

You are supposed to send in all the requested forms immediately and then send the cover letter and DS-2001 when you are ready for an interview i.e you've got your interview documents ready and are either ready for or have had the medical.

Some do / some don't. I decided to do it in the order requested i.e wait until my medical was both scheduled and imminent i.e in a few days , before sending on the the DS-2001 form. My logic was that as London have their procedure I'm going to follow it exactly. So in an ideal world my medical results arrive one day and get slotted into my file so that when the 2001 arrives they see it's there and process my interview date. The arrival of the 2001 prompting them to check the file as that's how they work their procedures.

Others do it other ways but my departure date is being determined by other factors so I'm not in the rush others may be.

P.S Surprised to see it's over two months since my NOA2 - I can remember watching the timer switch from 2 to 3 months since NOA1 - how time flies (eventually)

on the forms can you put na or do you leave blank

Never leave fields blank - not good practise whether it's immigration forms or anything else.

Also, as a general tip don't confuse 'None' and 'N/A' as they're not the same thing.

Just wondering on the Cover letter should I include that I've bought my flight ticket for the USA

What I put was:

Our wedding is booked for July 12th 2013 (my fiancé’s birthday – see attached confirmation) and I hope to leave the UK on July 10th 2013.

I thought that sounded a bit better than 'I have a flight booked for 10 July'. It's just that the official lines are 'don't make plans that can't be changed'. As it worked out, I flew to the US on 27 June as I was able to change my ticket from 10 July to 27 June.

The bar code on the DS-156 contains all your responses to the questions. Therefore, if you need to change anything, you need to generate it again to update the bar code. Do not add anything in pen, it has to be all done on the computer.

Can we send in all the forms except the cover sheet and wait till we have our dates and all our documents/sponsorship etc ready then send that in for interview date?

I sent all the forms together including the cover letter as I was completely ready for the interview (well - my medical was in 10 days).

the official line is 'send all the forms, except for the DS-2001, first. When you have all your documentation ready, then send the DS-2001 together with a covering letter stating that you are ready, your medical and wedding dates and your e-mail address.'

This is the cover letter I sent:

Immigrant Visa Unit,

United States Embassy,

24 Grosvenor Square,

London.

W1K 6AH

Case Number: LND2013xxxxx

Beneficiary – Anna Grant DOB - nn mmm yyyy

Petitioner – Kerr Avon – DOB nn mmm yyyy

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I am prepared and ready for my visa interview. I have all the documentation required at the interview.

Please find enclosed:

DS-230-Part 1

DS-156 (In duplicate)

DS-157 (In duplicate)

DS-156K

DS-2001

My e-mail address is anna.grant@hotmail.co.uk. My contact telephone number is nnnnnnnnnnnn.

As I am not currently working and I live in London, I can take a last minute cancellation interview.

My medical examination is scheduled for the 30th May 2013 with Knightsbridge Doctors.

Our wedding is booked for July 12th 2013 (my fiancé’s birthday – see attached confirmation) and I hope to leave the UK on July 10th 2013.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Faithfully

Anna Grant

BTW - my name isn't really Anna Grant. That is my internet pseudonym

Got a CEAC update today, thought it was going to be an interview date, DoS said it was just London logging the DS 2001 (which I sent over 2 weeks ago). Feeling rather disappointed.
