Yea hmm that may be a helpful addition actually as soon enough I will be back with my parents in Hampshire, so really not far

I don't know that it makes any difference but it did indicate to them how eager I was to have an interview (as we all are, really).

London does not have mandatory proofs. Pick ANY two from the list-

-latest tax return with W2

-latest tax return transcript (equal to above so these can't be your two things as they are the same thing)

-employer letter

-pay slips

-Social Security retirement statement

-Statement of pension received if retired

-bank statements or brokerage statements showing enough savings if not enough salary.

-UK financial statements if the beneficiary has a big savings account...enough to self-sponsor.

-anything else that proves income or assets.

They need originals correct or copies are okay? I wonder. I was thinking my Fiance take the copies and show the originals if asked.

For the pay slips I plan to give copies, but have the originals on hand in case they're requested.

Hi all, I tried to find the thread for this answer but I couldn't - if anyone on here can help that would be great;

- Can I go to the States in a few weeks on VWP for 5 days to visit my Fiance?

I'm currently about to do my medical this week and then I'm guessing my interview will be Sept/Oct.

I just wanna make sure I'm allowed to travel there during this K1 process.

Thanks!

Just want to add that my lawyer did have a client who had all the documentation and they still turned him away and he wasted the airfare because he had to turn around and go home (the customs guy just seemed to be a bit of a jerk). We were going to try to do it so my fiance could join us for our family vacation in two weeks if he wasn't here by then and our lawyer told us that it was a big risk...I think part of the reason though was because the last time my fiance came, it was for 3 months and they took him upstairs and grilled him about how he can't just get married here, etc. It's like they look for him because he's been here so often but he's always left when he said he would...so we're not going to risk it.

I'm sure everything will probably go fine but I just wanted to throw out there that it could happen where they say no.

Sorry one more... Do I state on arrival that I'm applying for a K1 and here on VWP or just keep it to myself and say I'm visiting family on VWP?

For the job thing, do I need a letter of employment or do they just take my word for it?

Just answer any questions they ask you honestly, dont volunteer any information unless they ask for it. I just got my boss to type a letter saying the date they expected me back. but it was never asked for. I think both steve and I have travelled 6 times combined back and forth since we started the K1 in January and we have never had any problems

When I visited my fiancé while we were waiting for our approval, I was asked three questions.

"What's the purpose of your visit?"

"I'm visiting my fiancé."

"How long are you staying?"

"16 days"

"Okay, how much cash do you have?"

"$300 in cash"

"Okay, have a nice trip."

I had all my proof and none of it was needed.

Here's the thread on visiting: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/67796-yes-you-can-visit/page-49

Thanks all, I think I'm just going to go ahead and book (£700!!!). Though I have been to the States around 10 times, I have never stayed more than 14 days at a time anyway. My last trip was before we filed for the I-129F.

I will be sure to bring my return ticket, my latest payslips, employment letter and contract of my return to work. Perhaps a copy of my NOA2 or interview letter (if it arrives by then)

Better to be as prepared as possible!

Thanks again! :)

See this thread about the large number of people who have visited at different stages of the K1 process - including me who visited 3 additional times after submitting our petition.

And here is a checklist of things to show your ties to the UK:

http://www.visajourn...content/k1visit

BTW - a word of caution about the lawyer's story. That may not be correct and could just be used by the lawyer to scare their clients. Our lawyer told me that I must not travel after we had submitted our paperwork.. It was only by finding the VJ site that I realized he was wrong. Had we believed him, we would have not seen each other for 8 months.

I hear you AG - our lawyer did say that he has had several clients visit with no problems but did have an issue once..I guess it's his responsibility to tell us that when we asked ...especially since my fiance seems to get grilled so much when he comes here. He said they do have manifests of who is coming and he may be on some sort of watch list since he has been pulled out of line more than once...but you could be right too..I just wanted to tell him that there is a slight chance of an issue..

I was seriously thinking of having my fiance try it next week since with the medical issue, he won't be making the family trip with my dad even if we are risking the money...problem is, he's an elementary school teacher and school is out and he didn't take a contract for next year since he'll be here. So I'm thinking it's probably best not to risk it, right?
