Just got off the phone with the embassy, they said just to mail it back via DHL and they would re-seal it no problem, no charge, now we just have to remember not to do it again! :)

Great News!!!

No problem, just contact embassy. This I am sure happens a lot. I bought tickets in advance and came for K1 interview to Moscow. We received packet and flew back together. I was the one getting packet from DHL. I do not blame OP. If I did not read the case on DO NOT OPEN on VJ (I am an extremely anxious person) I would open it before even reading DO NOT OPEN. So, no problem.

When that happens, you have to inform the consulate/embassy that you have mistakenly opened the yellow sealed packet. I believe the consulate will charge you extra for sending you a new sealed packet. Normally, it takes ten days for them to do that .

Umm there is NO OTHER sealed packet. The packet they have is their ENTIRE immigration file. They might charge them a fee to reseal it but they won't get "another one" because there IS no other one.

i would like to know also !

It's their ENTIRE immigration file.

Some consulates do not react well to this at all. Some take it back and hold onto it for months while they check and re-check everything.

Out of curiousity - what exactly is in those envelopes?

So, how bad do you want to know and what's it worth to you, hmmm??!?! biggrin.gif

Well, I was wondering the same thing when I got mine. Then, at my POE, all was revealed. The big secret is.....it's just the IV application and documents that were submitted, along with the information they enter at the consulate when you're interviewed. And that is the mystery surrounding the sealed "DO NOT OPEN" envelope.

Now that you know, try to act surprised, mmmkay?

No it's not a "copy" it's the original. It's the ENTIRE immigration file.

It's a problem without an unbroken Consular Seal on the packet, at POE.

To the OP - get back to the Embassy soonish (email them yer situation first) and have the packet resealed.

It may or may not be free, but expect anywhere from 1 to 15 days to do it, as the contents have to be verified.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Well, not everything in mine was original. Even though I completed EP and did my DS-260 online, I still had to fill out a DS-230 at my interview as Montreal wasn't entirely set up for EP processing. This was filled out in BLUE ink, yet at my POE, the form was in BLACK. And I know I didn't complete more than one...just saying. But this is not related to the OP's original post so I'm just going to end it here.
