Or, RP has a few good surface ideas, but then starts expounding on them and many become some combination of the bizarre and surreal, thus his firm spot in last place? Just spitballing here, but if RP was truly the shizznit then he would be getting more votes.

That's where you're wrong.

People are stubborn. Stubborn in the sense that they don't believe something until they see it for themselves or they see it but they don't want to believe what they see. Then of course there's the ignorant factor.

Someone can be right in front of you, telling you the truth, but your mind cannot wrap itself around what it going on and dismisses it, no matter how honest you might be being. This is the case with a lot of politiians who never "make it" on the grander stage.

The politicians that get votes, are the ones who spend money paying attention to research polls, analysis, what people actually care about. Why do you think the right wing spends so much time talking about abortion and why do you think the left-wing talks about pro-choice. It's polled. It's just like "gay rights." -- All of these things, the "social" issues are trivial and irrelevant to every day life when you have an economy that's in the toilet.

You can have the miracle to fix the economy tomorrow, you can have have the power to tell everyone "hey, let's stop and do this and it WILL GUARANTEED fix the economy and punish those who took it down the toilet." However if you do not at the same time happen to be pro-gun, pro-choice, pro-christian, pro-athiest, anti-jew, anti-gun, or whatever the hell people scream and cry about, there's not a snowballs chance in hell that you will EVER get elected to federal office. The "gotcha" politics on these issues are the hilarious part as well, especially when people yo-yo.

A candidate is only as good as what his/her pollsters make him out to sbe and how much s/he listens to them.

The problem with candidates like Ron Paul is they are screaming at you on the economic issues, but when it comes to the other major issues he simply says "consitutional government" which at the end of the day, is right and many things should be up to the states, but unfortunately the people want to hear more "action" words on how the person on TV is going to fix their problems, instead of their own communities getting together and working harder.

Being a politian in a country this large sucks. It really does, and it's actually an accomplishment for the momentum that Ron Paul does have. The only reason why it's as big as it is, is because there are enough people out there now who are sick to death of Washington. However for every person that is sick to death of the bullshit and believes their government is in the toilet, there's 6 others out there who are happy continuing to ride the slaughter train in the promise of free cheese and either free wombs or more "lives" saved... It's pathetic really.

Some of us recognize futility in action.

you have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.

He is getting more votes.

As the campaign moves forward, he's gathering steam.

Huh? Gathering steam? He went from 21% in Iowa to 23% in New Hampshire to 13% in South Carolina to 7% in Florida. What steam is he gathering exactly? That coming out of the tailpipes of the campaigns that leave him in the dust? Or do you mean you're blowing smoke? Smoke, steam, all the same...

you have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything.

True. But you also have stand to firmly on your feet on some real ground. Else, you end up like the funny uncle.

Interesting comment, though slightly misguided by the idea that "real ground" is as what the majority sees things as.

You can be standing by yourself, alone and be standing on real ground. The question is will everyone around you continue to sink.

The Gold Standard isn't coming back. That's reality. RP doesn't get that. Neither do you.

 picky on our argument aren't we?

The gold standard is a great example though of what NEEDS to happen. Not necessarily in the "gold" realm of things, but in a commodity in which holds value towards the US Dollar.

A fiat monetary system is extremely dangerous to the financial stability of the nation. Hell, they had a fiat system prior to the founding of this nation.

You could determine the value of the dollar based on averages of several commodities, but you need something that sort of holds an intrinsic value. Something that can be backed up and proven. A fiat system is nothing. It's worthless paper that is declared a value and is manipulated by laws, regulations, etc..

A fiat system breeds nothing but debt. It always has and always will. It's not stable. It's not reliable, and most of all, you remember that "real" word you used about ground, well fiat money isn't REAL!

Not at all. We're also not going to go back into isolationism. We're not going to pull our troops home from all across the globe. We're not going to leave the UN, not abandon NATO or do any other such thing. Not gonna happen. DOL, DOE, DOC - all not going anywhere. Even if Paul was elected. None of this stuff he rants on about would happen. Not a thing. That's reality. Oh, and Paul is never going to be President. Neither one of them. That's reality, too.

so you're saying just because certain things aren't going to happen (that should0 anything soon, then people should just throw in the towel and give up?

How is the 'value' of gold any less arbitrary than anything else?

Obviously VERY few people believe it's RP or bust. RP does add some interesting ideas to the mix, but if those ideas can never be implemented, and RP's 'momentum' stays the same, the answer as to who needs to give up becomes clear. RP also adds some comedy as well, but the outcome for his candidacy is pretty clear. Fail.
