When should I book my flights for?

I am sooooo happy! I just got the letter today- my interview is on February 13th! I was discussing with my fiance, when should I book my flights for? I was thinking February 29th, but how long does it take for them to send me back the visa after the interview? Will that be enough time for it to be sent back to me? will I need any other papers with me apart from my visa or is that enough at POE?

Thanks!

wait until your VISA is in HAND! Do not book until then.

You will be given an envelope that you will bring with you for POE. Usually easy at POE.

I booked my husbands flight before the interview and thank God when they asked more information at the interview I was able to give them that information because if it had taken longer I would of had to reschedule not only his but my flight too because I met up with him in Serbia. So I suggest wait till your visa is in your hands.

London is pretty efficient. If your interview is on Feb 13th, you SHOULD have the passport and visa back in plenty of time to depart on the 29th (from memory, I had my interview on a Tuesday and got my passport back at the end of that week).

But however tiny the risk, it's always a gamble.

Its very easy to make an error, even when you think everything should go smoothly. I'd recommend waiting until you've at least been approved.

The error I made was to not have an original I-134 (aff of support). I had a scanned copy that I had email from America to me. When submitting my paperwork I was told it should have been the original but the decision would come down to the agent that interviewed me. Fortunately during the interview, she mentioned it but said it was ok (probably because everything else was water-tight).

My advice, would be don't count your chickens...

  • 3 weeks later...

I just learnt the above point the hard way.

My London interview was on the 17th February. It's now Sunday the 26th Feb and still no sign of it on the DX Secure courier site.

Fingers crossed I'll receive word of it's release by the embassy tomorrow.

Good luck.

you dont need your complete history. they give you a questionaire to fill out which is basic. if you tick yes to any of the questions, they ask you a little more. have a read through a few of the posts in the Knightsbridge medical thread at the top of this page. Lots of stories about the process. I had my medical today.

all the results of your medical go direct to the embassy. you don't get a copy of them. they will call you if anything is up.
