LG Ilka

Guten Morgen!

I had a quick question that hopefully someone else has experience with here. My wife is from Germany, came over on a K1, and we are now married. She took my last name, and moved her maiden name to be her middle name. This appears on her green card, driver's license, and social security card. We need to change her name on her German Passport, and it is causing trouble/confusion.

Does anyone know exactly how this is done? What papers need to be filled out, proof needs to be included, and where it needs to be sent or where she/we need to go? We live in Rhode Island, and she has been talking to people in the German Consulate in Boston, but they are only open for like 3 hours per day and are less than helpful.

If anybody has any experience doing this, we would be very greatful for your :help: ! Danke.

@ Ctjwa: Germany won't accept her maiden name as middle name. The Standesamt can be very stubborn!!! E.g. you cannot name a child like you want in Germany, it has to be an accredited name for a boy/girl, which means you can't call a boy Lucy. ;) I wanted to do the same thing and it just won't work - her passport can only be first name/ last name. A middle name has to be a known first name, not a family name. Sorry!!!!

@ Tomte: Infopass.... Ehrlich war super bei uns!

Long time no hear. How are you ding? Hope Joana feels like home now...

I just recently applied for a new passport (well, it was november last year). You can go to this page http://www.germany.info/relaunch/info/cons...rt/neu_u18.html there you find a checklist of what is needed. She would have to send her documents to the nearest German consulate or you can actually go there which makes it cheaper.

Removal of Conditions Timeline:

03/20/2008 - check cashed
