Given that my wife is now eligible to apply for citizenship and we didn't even have an RFE, I sure would like it if USCIS was able to get us a green card that isn't all screwed up at some point soon.

UNBELIEVABLE. I just checked online and USCIS is sending an RFE for my I-90 requesting that they correct my wife's name, which they misspelled. What a bunch of idiots.

Tell me about it~~we are STILL waiting!!!!

Yesterday I got the RFE, and it doesn't actually request evidence and instead informs me that my wife's name, which is hyphenated, can not be rendered on the card because new USCIS regulations prohibit them from using hyphens, which strikes me as silly. Also, on the REF, they have misspelled my wife's name a second way, this time adding on E in it for some reason. So this is just a warning that anyone who has a hyphen in their name might get a similar RFE to the one I did informing them that USCIS will write it differently.

can't you submit the name in without the hyphenation? Because it's normal for arabic men to have up to 5 different names and because the name we applied for has to match his passport we put his first name, middle name and 2 last names with no hyphens. No problem at all.

Yep, that's what we'll do. I just wanted to mention that this is the reason for the RFE -- her name is hyphenated and they want to let me know that they can't handle that anymore.

Such a pain. My husband's name is hyphenated and it drives us insane. I just took his father's last name as mine (this could be a whole forum post of it's own). Any correspondence, cards, etc we have received from USCIS does not have the hyphen. We've run into issues when he applies for accounts, dmv, etc. he uses his legal hyphenated name, yet because the USCIS didn't, it pops up as an issue.

And_Sam, sorry for such a long wait. Are you going on to apply for naturalization or are you planning to wait?

The truly weird thing is that my wife's name is hyphenated on her (now expired) two-year green card, so it's not like it's impossible for USCIS to handle hyphenated names, since they were doing it before. It's just that for whatever reason, some bureaucrat somewhere decided that going forward, they're going to stop rendering hyphenated names properly, and start sending out RFEs to let people know about it.
