All,

I called NVC and they said that my packet had generated a checklist for my Wife's original birth certificate, which I submitted in the packet!. I have not received an email or anything, it was just over the phone. My lawyer said to wait and that sometimes they generate these checklists mistakenly then send the packet off to the embassy a week later. What should I do????????

From what I know, they generate what we call a "false checklist" when they request the IV package although they have already received. This case happens often, it also happened to me.

However, when they generate a checklist requesting ONE document, it doesn't seem like it can be generated by error.

Look at the DOS website here http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html , choose your wife's country from the list, and look at what they say about the birth certificate. If you are positive that what you sent was an original copy which exactly meets their requirements, then call back and ask for a supervisor review of the document.

People the system shows paid, my wife call them bank and she was told that the money was not taken from the account, is that normal?

Relax, if there's enough money on the account, everything will be fine. You know by experience now that the "paid" status doesn't actually mean the money was transferred yet, after what happened with the 1st payment!

Thank you, I did just that. They will have someone look into it. I will call back later today. Also, I think I know where the confusion is. She is an Egyptian national with an Egyptian birth certificate, but she was born in Saudi Arabia. The birth certificate for Egypt states that she was born in Saudi Arabia, which is fine. I never thought about this till now. :S...not sure what to do!

Can she obtain a Saudi birth certificate, maybe from their consulate? Or is it unavailable? It could be good if she enquired about that if she doesn't know.

Well I dont think she can because she is no longer a Saudi resident. But the Egyptian one is sufficient since she is an Egyptian citizen. It's like getting a US birth certificate stating you are an american citizen born in a foreign country. It's still a valid certificate. They accepted the copy of the birth certificate, just looking for the original :S

This is confusing :(

ps. Rujby--I'm officially offering you a chill pill...

I see what you mean, but I think it would be worth checking the US embassy in Cairo requirements.

For example, in such cases, Paris embassy requires both the French certificate of birth abroad AND the original birth certificate issued by the country in which the birth occurred.

If I were you I would make sure Cairo won't ask for it.

What do you mean you sent in the supporting documents? Do you mean the IV package?

The following is what you need to send in for EP and online forms:

-DS-261

-AOS package

-DS-260

-IV package (minus the DS-230 as that's the DS-260)

And no need to ask your question twice in the same forum. You gotta give people a chance to get to it ;)

Hmm. My joint sponsor is my dad. We have the same last name and address but perhaps I should also include my birth certificate just to be super obvious that we are related.

If you haven't sent the package yet, then definitely include both your birth certificate and your dad's. Shouldn't hurt.

I'd suggest just sending a certified copy in case they reject the photocopy. Certified copies are easy to get (in South Dakota anyways as my husband got like 5 certified copies of his birth certificate and marriage certificate without breaking a sweat laughing.gif).
