Thanks all, especially Saylin for all your efforts, it certainly made the process easier and gave my wife and I the confidence to not use an attorney! (effectively saved us $1000's of dollars as well! :))

Here's hoping for a speedy process for you all! I will hang round and try to help out where I can! :)

OK so after I posted this in the regular NVC forum I was told AOS has to be filed BEFORE DS-230 or else it won't be processed. IS THIS TRUE!!??

That is not true. I gave a detailed reply in your other thread.

1. I would suggest to NEVER staple anything in this process. It's much easier for an officer to take apart the papers if they're paperclipped than stapled. So use paperclips.

2. And don't worry about caps. Neither my husband nor myself used caps in any of the forms.

3. No, NVC most likely won't send you an email saying they approved your IV package. The best way to know is by CALLING an operator at NVC and asking. That's what most VJ members do yes.gif Communication with a NVC operator is the BEST way to stay updated on your case!

And NO, the AOS does NOT have to be sent first!! NVC will process whatever package they get first. There have been quite a few people that have sent the IV package first and sent the AOS package later for financial reasons.

Ah, #######. I should have read this last week.

1. I stapled my documents together, but they're separate in each package (i.e., all transcripts are stapled together, but they're not stapled with any other documents). Not a big deal, but takes the efficiency out of the guy who's going to look at my papers.

2. I sent in both AOS and IV packages at the same time. Two yellow envelopes in the same USPS Express envelope, will that confuse the heck out of them?

Question: What is this Packet 3? And what is Packet 4? They're in the timelines. What are those?

Thanks Saylin.

Damn man.. after reading that I'm all nervous. As I mentioned earlier, I sent in 230+ pages of evidence. One of those was a 21 page 'photo essay', for lack of a better term, to back up our EOR letter. It weighs in at 61MB and I'm not entirely sure it would be possible to make it any smaller to fit in their tiny little 10MB attachment limit... nevermind the rest of the 230 pages of evidence... :(

FWIW to you, I had the same dilemma on whether or not to send relationship evidence to the NVC so I started a thread on CFL about it and based on the replies that I received, I decided to only send what the NVC asked for. Nothing more, nothing less.

The NVC operators only know that the file is in the building, they will not know the specific contents of the file.

In the end, it is your call whether or not you wish to submit relationship evidence to the NVC.

If what I submitted before actually makes it all the way to GUZ, I think we'll be fine. I had never really considered the possibility that USCIS might do something mindnumbingly stupid like just forward the minimum and drop all the evidence out. It turns out that after printing everything off I rescanned it into master PDFs. I had forgotten having done that before. What I'm pondering doing is attaching the master evidence PDF as a backup. It's right at the 10MB limit.

On the subject of more, I'm not sure it would be necessary. Prior to the creation of the initial package I had been over there six times and that was all documented in the initial package. Pictures, stories and all that. I can't imagine the VO, having read all that, would reject us because there was nothing in there from the last two trips. Especially not with my passport positively stacked with stamps in their hand and me down stairs for trip number nine.

Trips:

Jan2010 - First Trip, met in person

Jul2010 - Trip two!

Nov2010 - Trip Three, Got engaged :)

Feb2011 - Trip Four. Spring Festival, Lucky Money all around :D

April2011 - Trip Five... Going to the chapel...

July2011 - Trip Six... Honeymoon in Xiamen :D

October2011 - Trip Seven... Beijing and the Great Wall :)

January2012 - Trip Eight... Chinese New Years and Spring Festival! More Lucky Money! :D

April2012 - Trip Nine... Interview?

Paper work for CR1:

28 July 2011 - 20January 2012 - Day 175... USCIS at CSC finally processed our paper work.

30January2012 - NVC 'received' the paperwork

6February2012 - NVC GUZ case number assigned - Attempted to OPTIN to EP.

7February2012 - NVC GZO (EP) case number assigned

8February2012 - 27February Massive delay caused by sending the EP OPTIN email too soon :(

28February2012 - AOS Fee Paid

29February2012 - AOS Fee shows paid, AOS Package sent in

5March2012 - IV Fee shows paid (paid on 3March), IV (DS-230) Package sent in

6March2012 - AOS Rejected due to minor error, corrected version emailed in

8March2012 - Email received indicating AOS correction and DS-230 review in process

9March2012 - Case Complete Email - END NVC PROCESS

15March2012 - Interview Scheduled: 18April2012 (Document turn-in: 17April2012)

It's not like they're going to issue you a checklist for stapling stuff together. It's just easier on the officer if it's not stapled.

And nope, you're fine. As long as each package is in their own envelope and clearly labelled, you're good to go! yes.gif

Packet 3 is for K1 visas. It's a combination of financial and visa application forms.

Packet 4 is the interview letter.

I swear that Canada Post hangs on to mail and delivers it once a week. My mail box was full today and included tax transcripts and UK police certificate. Woohoo :)

Yay! Grats kicking.gif

The I-864 instructions linked to on the NVC payment portal (same page you get the barcode cover sheet...link goes to state dept. website) specifically state that the AOS application should be stapled and all transcripts and returns should also be stapled together.

I would guess that NVC case officers probably have trashcans full of paper clips and give their staplers a workout when they get AOS submissions.

Despite it saying that, I would still use paperclips. Much easier to take off, sort through papers, put paper clip back on, compared to staples.

Either way, no checklist is going to be generated for stapling or paperclips or nothing at all!

Wait, so you got through USCIS and NVC and had an interview and got denied, then sent back to USCIS, they reaffirmed it, then sent it back to NVC?
