Got our passport application RFI - {They say the photo is retouched).

We are taking a new pic. Of course it is not retouched. What else we can do.

I applied March 7 at a local post office in Irvine, CA. Yesterday, March 26 I received my passport book in the mail! Yay! Haven't received CoN yet neither did I apply for passport card.

However, upon inspection I see that the photo turned out too orange. It look liked they over saturated the photo. Looks completely different from the one I submitted which I made sure is properly exposed, correctly saturated/contrasted. Has anyone experienced this?

Apparently they scan the photo and then print it. They process lots of these so sometimes they mess it up. The photo on the Naturalization certificate as far as the quality was really bad even tho they took the picture at BIO.

So your face is not recognized? or just orange?

My face is recognizable, it's just too orange. The more I look at it the more it makes me rethink that perhaps I took the photo last Halloween dressed up as an umpa lumpa! Haha. But seriously, with all the guidelines they make us follow on photo requirements I had expected them to deliver something decent at least. And yep, I'm with you on the CoN, they were using good grade DSLRs but the end result quality is just atrocious!

Yes, because its already digital and easier to place it (its printed with the whole certificate). The one they took from my wife was really a nice photo but bad quality. I can't even have it scanned.

Yes, that's what they used on mine. Had I known I would have prepared better. I thought they were going to use the photo submitted together with N400 but not the case.

yes, I was surprised that this picture taken at biometrics showed up on my CoN later!

I got lucky, though - it doesn't look too bad.

My passport book was in the mail yesterday (I had submitted my own picture, taken by my husband, with the passport application) that one turned out really good!

I recommend you submit a photo that is a bit lighter than natural and doesn't have a very strong contrast.

You should take a digital photograph with a high resolution and good (daylight) lighting.

Then tune the color saturation down a bit, turn the brightness up a bit, reduce contrast slightly - and make (or order) prints in the apropriate size of 2"x2".

That seems to work best with their process (scanning and printing)

I took my own photo too and tried to print it looking as natural possible and is slightly lighter than normal.

They should change their procedure for passport photos. Instead of asking us to submit printed photos we should be provided a secured link online after they receive our application where we can upload our photo. This I think at least would lessen possibility of photo defects since it eliminates the extra step of scanning and printing again.

Oh well... but still I am truly elated receiving my passport book! I couldn't sleep at all last night and was just looking and flipping through it again and again.

Same with mine. I had to get the second passport picture to check it because I know I wouldn't submit anything that looked like that!

It's reddish/orange and darker.

Bleh.

yep - submit a "pale", light photo and you'll get decent results  but then, they don't tell you that up front, you need "insider tips" from somebody who already found out the hard way. :innocent:

Hmmm, dunno if that will ever work. Who knows whose pix some pple will submit? I got mine taken at the Post Office where I submitted my application. It actually was lighter and very nice compared to what I submitted for naturalization and was used for my CoN. I didn't do any biometrics for naturalization.
