Hello all! I'm new to VJ and am very happy I stumbled on to the site it is giving me hope.

Basically, I filed for the 1 130 for my husband and received the NOA1 on 9/19/12... Hopefully I will have my NOA2 soon...fingers crossed.

I am wondering about the part when the US embassy in Costa Rica tries to contact my beneficiary to give him the packet. It makes sense that they wouldn't try to mail it because that wouldn't be very reliable. I read somewhere on here that they will call my husband and tell him to come pick it up. Is this correct? If so how do I update his contact info and phone number, he has a different number now than the one on the biographic data paper? Will they send me a copy of the packet? And lastly is it in English? If it is how will he know what to do with it...

I'm also wondering if I can go to an infopass appointment for the above reason, I really just want to talk to a person face to face and have them tell me things are progressing, you know?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

Last thing: how do I add my timeline to the end of my posts like most people do?

When your file arrives at the NVC and after they assign a case number, give the NVC yours and your husband's email addresses. All correspondence to and from the NVC will be by email from that point on (although you will still have to send forms and accompanying documentation to the NVC via snail mail). Forms your husband needs for the medical examination can be downloaded and printed from online.

To add a timeline to the end of your posts, look at the upper right corner of your screen by your username and click "settings." After you click settings, click "profile" and then click "change signature." You will then be taken to the signature editor where you can input your timeline.

I got my NOA2 back at the end of December, and it took about a 10 days (which included New Years) to get the consulate in San Jose. What you can do is call the NVC once you get your NOA2, and they will ask for your spouse's email address and can also confirm the phone number (I also assume change it). What happened with me in regards to the consulate contacting us is-- first they tried calling Daniel, who did not answer because he does not have cell phone reception where he works. They almost immediately sent me an email afterwards letting me know they had tried to get a hold of him, that his packet was waiting for us. After that, it was up to us to get a hold of the consulate. (Keep in mind, they have very restricted hours when you can call... something like between 9-11 am four days a week.) And you are right, you guys have to pick up the packet from the consulate, though it is almost identical to what they send you once they receive your packet (at least which they sent to me in my case with a couple important exceptions.

Also, in case it is relevant, if your spouse is not in San Jose, someone else can pick up their packet for them. You just need to call the consulate and give the name and cédula of the person who will pick up the packet.

Good luck!
