I just bought my ticket to Montréal yesterday, so I'll be going! I thought US citizens were always allowed in a US consulate/embassy?

The interview will be the first day of a two week trip, so our cat is coming with me too. Doubt she'll be allowed into the consulate, despite being an American. (No joke, when I was traveling back to the US with her after an extended stay in Canada, the American border guard asked me in all seriousness if she was "an American cat"...) :luv:

Well, my cat was born in Turkey is now living in France and is soon expected to move to the US. :P

He's got his little European pet passport. Seriously. Can't board a plane in the EU without it.

I read reviews for some countries that say USCs are not allowed in the embassy for their spouse's interview. For example: Egypt and Turkey. In other places they can get into the building, but not in the interview area (China). And other embassies make it almost mandatory for USCs to come (if I remember well Dominican Republic, Ecuador and a few others).

One thing that really shocks me in the immigration process is how it does NOT offer equal chances to applicants coming from different parts of the world :(

Tegucigalpa (am I right?)

Immigrant visa interviews for beneficiaries in Honduras are conducted at the Embassy in Tegucigalpa, so you are correct.

I thought US citizens were always allowed in a US consulate/embassy?

US Citizens are always allowed into a US Embassy or Consulate; however, the polices and procedures of immigrant visa units at some (more accurately, most but not all) Embassies or Consulates only allow the beneficiary into the interview area.

To everyone buying plane tickets...I've done some checking on kayak.com today and I did not see a noticeable difference in price from say a ticket a week from now compared to a week or two after my wife's interview date (March 19). I hope buying your tickets works out for you but no way can I take a risk of losing around 1500$. I've read too many bad stories on here.

It really depends on the situation. We are going to buy our plane tickets before we have the interview because it will save us thousands of dollars (2 adult tickets, 1 child, 1 infant).

Our case is one of the simple ones to process. We've been married 6 years (after dating for more than 3 years). We have lived together since before we were married and we have 2 kids. There are no red flags in our case, outside of a possible request to have a joint sponsor. I've already got all the paperwork ready to go for that if need be.

Additionally, we're going through the Tokyo Embassy, which most people equate to being about as difficult as going through a DMV (lots of waiting but rarely any problems).

Sure it might be a "gamble" to buy before we have the visa, but if I had to lay odds on our chances of not being approved at the interview, I would say they are less than 1%. So for us, it's worth trying to save A LOT of money on plane tickets.

It really depends on your itinerary! My husband bought his plane ticket to leave 10 days later, he paid 1000€. The ticket I just booked for April, 2 weeks after the interview, cost me 600€.

We could definitely use the 400€ difference to help furnish our house in the US you know!

If your spouse is going to interview in a difficult consulate, say Islamabad or Lagos, then yeah, it wouldn't be wise. But Paris, with proof we've lived together for 2 years before getting married? I don't think the bet is too risky, but if denial or AP happens, well, I'll blame noone but myself.

Hang in here! It's gonna come, and if you're scheduled in February, you might still get a March date. Did you look at Nigeria portal to see what the usual time between scheduling and actual interview is?
