In that case, maybe just ask your doctor to write a letter saying that you were diagnosed with the condition 15 years ago and have received the proper treatment since that time (maybe list the blood tests, ultrasounds, and medicine).

Since it's nothing that would disqualify you from a visa, a letter from your doctor stating those facts would probably result in no delay at the medical exam.

After reading this particular post, a question comes to mind. I have some health conditions like diabetes and hypothyroidism. I'd of course be declaring those at the time of the medicals, but what I wanted to know is whether I need to get a letter from my primary physician stating these.

I think it's just a matter of whether or not you want to be over prepared and over cautious about preventing any delays. I don't have any facts to support my opinion, but I would imagine that conditions like yours that are not unusual do not normally result in any delays at the medical exam and you don't need anything prepared from your regular doctor.

At no point is it listed as a requirement for the medical and the advice suggesting a letter from your personal doctor is probably based on a small handful of people that posted on this site that a particular medical condition of theirs required further examination. I don't think that is what normally happens when people have conditions that are more common or easily treatable.

But if you're on a tight schedule and buying plane tickets to fly out within weeks of your interview, you can't afford to have any delays and would be best served to cover all your bases and have a letter.

Actually the medical examination instructions say this:

"Obtain the following records and bring them to your examination:

Your vaccination immunization records

Any prior chest x-rays

Copies of your medical history records

Your passport, identity card, laissez-passer, or travel document"

And in the Medical FAQs:

"What if the applicant is being treated for a chronic medical condition or is taking medication on a regular basis?

Applicants being treated for chronic medical conditions, or those taking medications on a regular basis, should be familiar with the medical conditions being treated, and the names of the medications they are taking. Applicants unsure of their diagnoses must present a certificate describing the condition(s), the current treatment, and prognosis with a list of prescribed medications."

I'm pretty sure all of that just means that you need to be able to communicate to them your medical history, chronic conditions, medication, etc. Someone unable to clearly do so would then be required to get actual paperwork from their personal doctor.

There is no set standard for a "medical history record" If you can talk intelligently about your condition and its treatment AND it's nothing unusual then it is very unlikely there will be a request for statements from your personal doctors or further checks into your medical history.

If you've got a rare condition then it might be better to have your doctor whip something up beforehand.

I can't agree with you, although I haven't experienced it myself yet, the search I made here on the forums came back with numerous hits of people who were requested to make further exams and/or get a letter from their doctor for benign and common conditions such as heart murmur, hypertension, mild depression which occurred a decade ago, etc... And these cases were not from countries were people are not usually treated well, but from the UK, Canada and the likes.

I'd rather be on the safe side and bring a letter than risk any complication at the medical!

Couldn't agree with you more. Better to be safe than sorry. I know what my conditions are, I know what meds and what dosages I'm taking them at, but I'd rather get a letter from my PCP stating that to avoid any unforeseen complications.

Again, if not for VJ, I probably wouldn't even have thought of it. Thanks again guys!!! You all are a great help indeed.

Well, my cat was born in Turkey is now living in France and is soon expected to move to the US. :P

He's got his little European pet passport. Seriously. Can't board a plane in the EU without it.

I read reviews for some countries that say USCs are not allowed in the embassy for their spouse's interview. For example: Egypt and Turkey. In other places they can get into the building, but not in the interview area (China). And other embassies make it almost mandatory for USCs to come (if I remember well Dominican Republic, Ecuador and a few others).

One thing that really shocks me in the immigration process is how it does NOT offer equal chances to applicants coming from different parts of the world :(

Ha Equal chances indeed. Some countries all you have to show is you are married and off they go. I am the USC and married to a Nigerian. Yes its High Fraud country but man what we have to go through is crazy. I am allowed in the interview area but they may or may not ask me for anything. I just know I want to be there when that time comes.
