hey we are planing on going to boston in march, and my wife is still waiting on her adjustment of statues, it was sent to california in october, and we havent heard anything yet. she did not apply for the i -131, just for the work permit. we are in austin texas and my question is does she need the i-131 to leave the state? and also if she can leave does she have to use her passport or can she use her work permit for an ID? im hoping that her statues will be changed here soon but in the event that it does not i just didnt want to get plan tickets and then not be able to go.

Your wife can leave the state, but not the country. She can use her valid passport. Here are other forms of acceptable TSA identification.

Acceptable IDs include:

U.S. passport

U.S. passport card

DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)

U.S. Military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DOD civilians)

Permanent Resident Card

Border Crossing Card

DHS-designated enhanced driver's license

Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)

A Native American Tribal Photo ID

An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)

A foreign government-issued passport

Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) card

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Non-US/Canadian citizens are not required to carry their passports if they have documents issued by the U.S. government such as Permanent Resident Cards. Those who do not should be carrying their passports while visiting the U.S.

hey black velvet, the only id she has is her Mexican passport and her work permit here in the states, also her SS# card. if she where to use her passport and her AOS did get accepted how will it affect that, cuz she is using her new name now.

She can travel anywhere in the State, but not abroad, just bring her passport with her, i have experience like that, but to make sure bring her NOA or receipt that she did apply for AOS already and your just waiting until USCIS send her conditional card. She can bring the marriage certificate, anyways she should have her Conditional green card by march or april.

Make sure that you book the ticket with the name that appears in your wife's passport.
