What could my husband do for a job?

My husband and I are stating the AOS process. However, I am wondering what type of job my husband could get when he gets his work permit? I mean he's young, 25 years old, but as far as skills, I just do not know what he could do?

Any suggestions?

Nothing really. I mean he did some chemical lab work. but nothing really. i think he can make pizza but that's it. He's studying now to be a chemical engineer, but he can't get a job in that until he finishes. He speaks English very well, I told him he could be a translator or something, but he doesn't have formal experience in that, so that is questionable.

I just don't know what to tell him.

He can do what the rest of the college going population do; waiter, office help, etc. It's unlikely that he will get a "proper" job like translating. He will probably end up doing menial jobs like the rest of us when we were in college.

I had some of the worst jobs as a college student; cook at a seafood restaurant, busboy, waiter, department store sales, etc. Yes, I cleaned up after when kids spit up their food. I cleaned bathrooms. I did what I needed to do to pay the bills while I got my degree.

There are many jobs he can do such as retail, fast food, restaurant, cleaning, even work at places like Walmart, Target, Costco, grocery stores, etc.

Depending on where you live may dictate whats available to him. In a larger city his ethnicity may work for him better such as in a middle eastern restaurant as a server. As the others have said until he finishes his degree program the service industries may be his best bet to contribute to the household income.

Translation jobs aren't as abundant as one might think, at least from my experience.

Hi Saudiwife,

I was just like your husband when I came here in America. I didn't know what job to get when I got my work permit. I helped my husband when he was working in a health food store but I only did it for like 3 months because we have to move in to another city in California. Right now, I am doing an online job that can create some income.

I suggest he look for a job that does not require experience at first. I am currently doing an online job that does not require experience. I suggest that he at least check out this website www.create-income-now.ws. This is a job opportunity that does not cost anything to get started.

He can get plenty of jobs in restaurant , shops etc until he finished his studies. Maybe if he has technical experience he can get into good job.

Always try to stick with whatever job you get and later you can shift to other job.

How is his English? See what's on Monster, Craigslist etc., and go from there - lots hire without experience if he's a fast learner or reliable. It'll either narrow down the search or expand what he's interested in doing when looking online. He doesn't have to aim at making pizzas for years if he doesn't want to, it's just a way to get something on the resume and get the experience. Doesn't have to be 40 hours in the beginning, might be too overwhelming for some.

I started applying for jobs before getting EAD so I'd at least get to talk to some employers to know what to expect in the US and take it from there. I started looking before moving to the states.
