Hello everyone!

Good news, my wife is going to have her interview on Feb 27 for a CR-1 visa!

We are wondering about the post-approval process and have the following questions:

1. If approved, how long does it take until the visa is ready for pickup? Anyone who has recently gone through the CR-1 process and can give feedback would be most appreciated!

2. Where is the pickup? At the embassy or Guangzhou Post Office? She will be in GZ waiting to head to the US so we want to make sure she can retrieve in GZ.

Thank you so much!

Moved from IR-1/CR-1 Process & Procedures to China regional forum; topic is US Consulate in Guangzhou specific.

When your wife goes to the Consulate for document intake, she will be given an EMS waybill. She will fill out the waybill and bring it to the interview the next day. The address on the waybill is where her passport with visa will be sent to. Since she will be waiting in Guangzhou for her passport to be returned by the Consulate, she can designate any address she wishes.

FYI, the Consulate will return passports to anywhere in China where EMS is available.

OP, one more thing, is the February 27th date you mentioned the date on the notice? If so, then that will be the date of document intake that I referenced earlier. The interview itself will occur on the 28th.

The Consulate will send the passport to the Post Office closest to the Consulate. This typically takes 2-3 days (though not guaranteed).

If you send it EMS to other places in China, it can take 1-2 weeks but again neither is guaranteed.

If you are looking to fly out as soon as you have the passport, waiting in Guangzhou has its advantages.
