I don't get how you blame the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in WWII on the US, they were coming despite our presence. The Japanese military leaders had decided that Japan should be THE IMPERIAL POWER CONTROLLING ALL OF ASIA and were set on occupation and dominance through military might at all costs. To control the region they needed to control everything, not just the resource rich areas but also the trade routes and all points in between. The Philippines is ideally located within South-East Asia which is exactly why the Spanish were there before the US, the Japanese came in WWII and the US remained there even after Vietnam...

Unless I'm forgetting something we lost a lot of good men during the initial invasion, the occupation and the liberation of The Philippines in WWII.

I do agree that the Middle East is about to explode but I don't think it's fair to place the sole blame on the US. There has been a lot of outside influence in those countries since the discovery & dependence on oil which has launched them from nomadic camel herders (no offense intended) into the modern era in way too short of a time.

So I Guess your feelings are: Pearl Harbor was Fair Play to the Death since they knew Invasion of the Philippines was part of their Strategy as well. And Just what did they do? KILL. And what did we do ? Eventually, we knew we had to take back the Philippines. Knock-Out Air Bases. Combat.

The Goal of Japan was to Destroy every Battleship in Pearl Harbor and kill as many as posible without WARNING. Do some History.

Clark Air Force Base was shut down soon after the war. Fed-Ex leased it and found it not profitable so shut down as well. NOW, We are looking again and so are other Countries and they maynot be friendly. (A Stratigic Stronghold to Control)

It would be MUCH EASIER TO BE THERE FIRST THAN TRY TO TAKE IT BACK. See above. War has no warnings unless you are willing to see possibilities. AND THE WAKE-UP CALL IS THERE.

I Would Support the President to wake-up and send Troops to the Phils. AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS.... Can you Guess. Other Countries would GET PISSED-OFF. Why? Because we did it first and dis-allowed invasion. I forsee Clark Airforce Base and smaller bases coming soon.

I wonder what Country we will borrow the money from to do this?

While not a scholar, I grew up around the military, was even the youngest Cadet Battalion Staff Officer in high School, being the S-4 as a sophomore in High School. Never went active duty as it wasn't my calling but I had to learn the history and study our military past.

As an American I say Pearl Harbor was the act of a cowardly Imperial Military Force, an honorable country would have made a formal declaration before the first shot was fired.

As a student of military history I say there is no place for honor in war, it's a fight between nations and if you want to win you do so at all costs. You hear the phrase "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight" well I believe that when facing a superior opponent I'm not against bringing a bus to a gunfight, how much will that gun help you after I've run you down?

Japan knew they had only one chance to keep the US out of the War in the Pacific and that was to sucker punch us. They swung and they only served a glancing blow. The vengeance that was brought down upon them was excessive but just. They made us pay for every inch with blood and in return we lubricated our war machine with their blood. Pearl Harbor was no more honorable than our dropping of 2 Nuclear Bombs on the Japanese Civilian population but it was a necessary action in a time of war. Of course since we won we get to write in history that our actions were honorable whereas the Japanese actions were not.

Long gone are the days of not shooting officers and fighting war under gentlemen's rules. Heck the US broke that mold with the revolution when we put Kentucky long rifles in the trees and sniped British Officers.

For what it's worth, stationing US Military personnel in the Philippines will not prevent an attempted (and possibly successful) invasion of the Philippines (under the right circumstances) today any more than it did 70 years ago. Japan didn't take the Philippines from us because they were stronger than we were, they got it because we were otherwise occupied at the time and our resources were out of place.

Do I agree that we should still have a military presence in the Philippines? Yes I do but it should be at the will of the Philippine people not ours.

So I'll ask once more, how can you with a straight face claim the the US presence in the Philippines provoked the Japanese invasion 70 years ago?

If Philippines was a US territory again then all the Oinays would be citizens and no K-1s needed. I think this whole thread is just an attempt to avoid CENOMARs

The Philippines was Attacked December 8th the next day and Invaded the 10 of 1941. YOU SEE NO PLAN THERE.

The attack on Pearl Harbor and the attack on the PI were planned all right... By the Japanese. Plans are what military forces make before they attack.

I don't see anyone invading PI soon, and for sure the USA would have PI's back in the event of that unlikely scenario occurring.

It also included invasions of every other Asia country and most of the Pacific Island nations.

You demonstrated ignorance in the wars countries wage war by expecting Honor to be a part of warfare, seriously. How does that work?
