Although they are not really needed and not sure they carry much weight, we sent one for my wife's uncle from Kyrgyzstan, along with my bank statement to prove we would be able to take care of him during his visit. He was approved on the spot. Ours was scanned.

Hope you have the same luck.

This is from the US State Department concerning letter of supports for visitor visas;

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/denials/denials_1361.html

HOW CAN I HELP?

You may provide a letter of invitation or support. However, this cannot guarantee visa issuance to a foreign national friend, relative or student. Visa applicants must qualify for the visa according to their own circumstances, not on the basis of an American sponsor's assurance.

Thanks very much for the information and well wishes. I somehow doubt our will be that simple, but we're trying.

Thanks for the information. Did she have to show that she could support herself during her trip?

I've seen that page. I was wondering specifically about the signature (i.e., do I need to Fed Ex an original over there). Seems it's not worth it, in all likelihood.

She didn't have to show any proof of support. She only had to prove she had strong ties to come back to Peru which I assume they based that decision soley on the application she did online.

Again, they didn't ask her to show any additional documentation at either interview even though I had everything that is recommended to provide (bank account statements, letter of support, letter of return assurance, etc).
