I know for oath ceremony we have to dress formal. How about for interview? Can I go dress down or do I have to put the suit / sports jacket to go for the interview?

Hi ConcordUser.

Firstly good luck in your interview.

You have to treat the interview as a formal occassion or a job interview. Respect those who hold your future by the way you dress and conduct yourself. So a business suit or if you are a lady a Business dress. Please and thank you with a smile will help you relax.

Good luck Shaq.

So a business suit or if you are a lady a Business dress.

Also depends where you live, of course. If I were to wear a suit here in HI, people would ask me if I am going to a funeral or to court lol xD

Edit: doesn't mean I disagree, of course. For me it would be formal wear but more local styled ;) (that is if I ever hear from them lol)

Suit is not necessary, I saw all the people in Denver at my interview - some wore business attire, others just a pair of jeans with a nice sweater. I wore jeans too - I was there with two young children and suits isn't really what I wear these days. It's perfectly acceptable as long as it's clean, properly fitting and such (e.g. sweater is fine, but I wouldn't wear a low cut top, kwim?).

Feel my wife made a mistake by wearing one of her best most expensive business suits at her interview, had a woman IO that was not only super fat, but was wearing a black tent. She also accused my wife of being a prostitute three times. But my wife kept her cool.

Ha, my stepdaughter came home from college wearing those long opaque black stockings and a mini-skirt, looked modest to me, but my wife said, you are not going in like that. So gave her a pair of more casual dress slacks to wear.

Only stipulation I am aware of, don't want you to wear blue jeans, can't be more American if you wear blue jeans, but again, this is the USCIS.
