Not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but I've been having one of those days where i'm trying to think past the K1 process, and about all the excitement ahead, just to stay positive!

I wondered how many people ended up having 2 'weddings' - we've agreed to get legally married within a few days of me arriving in the US (New Orleans) on my K1, but we're just gonna go sign the papers with our with 2 close friends and then go to our favourite restaurant afterwards, all very low-key (i won't exactly be wearing jeans, but i won't be wearing a wedding dress either!). Then we'll have a proper celebration about a year after that, to allow all our friends and families time to book flights etc. Who did/is planning to do this, and who is just going all out to plan everything in the 3 months we've got to get married?!

Everybody who has been married once before.

We had a civil ceremony in Colombia. When my wife gets to the US, we will have a spiritual ceremony, hopefully a Thanksgiving celebration (Dios permitting), we will renew our vows and have a reception with the fam in the US!

2 ceremonies makes sense to me for a lot of us starting off on different continents, be it a fiance or spousal scenario. :innocent:

Yep, we had two weddings, one in June for the civil ceremony and one in September for the religious one (first one in Arlington, VA where we live and second one in Seattle where my family could attend).

we are doing 2 weddings as well.A civil one right away,to get all the paperwork process started asap, and a big one in the summer whenever it works out for everyone to attend. I have a tea length pretty ivory dress for the civil day.Our families and friends would flip if we didn't have a real wedding too, besides we both want a religious ceremony. We are going to go out for dinner and dancing, probably a hotel. The "real" deal is going to be at my fiance's farm outdoors.

We are too- we're going out to Chicago to the cultural center where we can have a civil ceremony for $10 on certain Saturday mornings, as soon as possible once I get to the US. Then we have booked a Venue here in England for a non-legal civil (atheists here :P) vow-renewal/wedding in June 2013.
