Hello,

As of August 2011, unfortunately it is no longer possible to do DCF in Chile, and so I must do it through the Chicago Lockbox (I am a USC living in Chile with my Chilean husband). I am just wondering if anyone here has gone through the process of filing with the Chicago Lockbox from abroad, and if so, can share experiences. I have heard that if you file from abroad, the process is expedited, but am not 100%.

Thanks and please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum....I just wasn't syre where to publish it.

Keep in mind that your I-130 is slowed down now. It was pulled out of line and was matched up with the I-129F, so you lost a month on the I-130. I also think trying to make it a K-3 might have changed things. Good luck.

I'm confused - for countries where there is still DCF, will that still be faster or should I file through Chicago? (I'm in London).

I did post a separate thread about this, but didn't get an answer. Is that because no one actually knows?

Thanks.

For us, it'll likely be around one month from submitting the I-130s to receiving the CR-1/CR-2 visas via Moscow DCF.

As I understood, Chicago Lockbox is many times longer.

Our timeline:

01/11/12 - Submitted I-130s to Moscow USCIS in person

01/12/12 - Had interview with Moscow USCIS officer to establish bonafide marriage

01/12/12 - I-130s approved and passed to US Consulate

01/13/12 - IV Unit in Moscow received approved petition

01/23/12 - We received confirmation that I-130s were approved by USCIS

01/24/12 - We received package notification from post office

01/26/12 - Picked up "package" - notifications from IV Unit with case numbers

01/26/12 - Set interview date online

02/01/12 - Passed medical exams

02/02/12 - Received police record

02/09/12 - Interview... APPROVED!

02/13/12 - Visa delivered

02/23/12 - POE Chicago

I think you filed before things changed :(

For the petitioner's address, you did give the UK one, not a US postal address, right? EDIT: This question was for Alebella.

My understanding is that it will still be faster to do DCF (If available) because that method does not go through the NVC stage, which can take a few weeks to a couple months.

Yeah, I don't think anyone really knows. The whole system seems to be going through a complete overhaul at the moment. It appears that some I-130 applications from abroad are being approved in record time, but who knows if those are just one-off flukes.

We are about to start the I-130 process from the UK and I think we have to file through Chicago because I don't have indefinite leave to remain here, I just have a temporary work visa. Hopefully it goes smoothly! (But I'm not holding my breath...)
