Hi,

The STP web site says it will take 22 business day to get the certificate from the interview day. My question is can I have the wedding ceremony before then? Also, When we go to hotel, what can I use to substitute the certificate as some of them will ask for it?

Thanks guys.

I know 5-star hotels do not ask for marriage certificate. Or just have one person check-in.

This can be a very dangerous bit of advice depending on where the hotel is and how they do things... In VN it is technically against the law for an unmarried VN national to stay or even visit a Foreign citizen in a hotel room. There is a perception of prostitution and it can cause more problems that it is worth. Add to that the fact that in VN they charge a VAT per person staying in the room... so by not saying who is actually staying in the room it is in effect defrauding the govt/ innkeeper of a VAT that is required to be collected. Every innkeeper is also required to document the identity of all people staying there. Just like is done in a Ho Khau. They normally take the passports of all persons while there.

Most hotels in HCMC don't make an issue of it. Smaller ones may, but with a little Hoi lo it becomes a non issue. In HaNoi it is more common for them to stick to the law.

Imagine what your spouse would feel like if the police kicked in the hotel door and arrested her for suspicion of prostitution...

I had my wedding ceremony before the civil marriage and stayed at several small hotels in tp.hcm and in provinces and they never asked for any kind of marriage documentation. They did ask for my passport as well as my wife's id.
