Is there any good website to get good airline deals? I might fly on the 15th of March from Bangkok to Salt Lake City, once I get my visa this February.

I tried checking online, and just one way cost almost from 900 to a grand. Any good suggestion? Thanks!

For flights out of Thailand you should be able to find a good price thru one of the thousands of travel agencys there. Beware of prepared for the cheap seats that take many extra hours due to layovers. If you like sitting in airports buy the cheap seats if not spend a little more & get it over with. Some flights to L A are 27 hours others 15 for example.

You may think about buying two seperate airline tickets. The first from BKK to LAX or SFO and the second from their to SLC. Look at Korean Airlines website, as it was less expensive on their site over Orbitz or the other travel Websites. Good luck.

Forgot to mention, the second ticket I bought was on Southwest Airlines and the positive side to them is they do not charge baggage fees too. Good luck.

Be careful about buying from the cheap websites. On one trip I ended up with 5 different confirmation numbers, one for the trip, then 4 for different airlines. I needed to make a change and the airline I was riding on wouldn't help. They said call the discount company. I also wasn't allowed to pick a seat even though I booked months in advance. I had to wait until airline checkin to get a seat assignment. On a long international flight that will guarrantee you a bad middle seat. It ended up being so difficult and expensive that I stayed with my original schedule. That cheap ticket only saved me about $15 over the airline site price. I've had good trips booked with Kayak.com. The bad one was with Vayama.com or something like that.

I think we will all get hit with a high one way fare bringing our spouse over the first time......ugh. Good luck!

Thanks :-)

Best bet is to go to a local travel agent in Thailand. They always seem to have better prices for flights that originate in Thailand than the websites.

If you're going from the U.S. to Thailand, best to use one of the travel websites. Not sure why that is, but that's how it's always worked for me.

When I went for the first time to visit my now fiancee in Chiag Mai, I was exceedingly frustrated. I was staying for 90 days which seemed to make finding a good ticket worse. I tried all the online engines like kayak and went to all my local travel agents including AAA. (For those not familiar with AAA = American Automobile Association). I got dozens of quotes between $1900-$2700. This was round trip from my New Hampshire airport which is small, and on the East Coast of America, to Chiang Mai directly, probably about the longest flight from anyplace to Chiang mai.

I spent about 8 hours researching and eventually found http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ which is a rather odd duck. You can use it, but you cannot buy tickets if you find them. However, you can print out the data and bring it to a travel agency.

I did this, and armed with this I went back to AAA, "nope, those flights does not exist." So I went to a second and third again hearing "I can't find these flights." Almost ready to give up I went to a tiny travel agency, and the agent started trying to use the numbers and said: "this is really odd." She seemed confused but then seemed to figure out how to use the data and I left with a smile and a ticket from my local minor airport (Boston ...ewwww!) direct to Chiang Mai for $1176.

I did have to pay $40 for her fee and I'm glad that I did because on one leg the door to the plane would not close and the flight was cancelled and I was stuck and Korean Airlines would have put me aboard the next available flight which would have forced me to wait almost two full days! They said that was all they could do... Well, after calling her, and her calling them, an alternative was offered that knocked off 1.5 days of waiting and she got me a meal voucher. (She actually got Korean Airlines to get me a ticket on Lufthansa and totally reversed my route which was originally West, over LA to Korea, and instead I went East to Hamburg, Germany and then on from there) I think that was $40 well spent.

I think that the matrix sofware is really worth using and if you find substantially lower fares, then find an agent that can figure out how to use the data. (Unless you can find what you need at a similar price on the main engines like kayak.

I liked the Pocho's suggestion of looking for multiple tickets. It seems that often one-way tickets are almost as expensive as round trips.

I consider Ning to be an expert on Thai matters, however I spend time on thaivisa.com and have read multiple times where people in Chiang mai have been burnt by certain travel agents so it seems wise to choose a travel agent that someone else has recommended.
