They will always tell you 5 months. It's roulette now. Just have to wait for luck to strike. There appears to be no method to the process. It could be next Monday or it could be the end of June. The chance that the CSR was able to give you an accurate date to expect approval is very low. Which is good and also bad. It could be very very soon. Or it could be a bit longer than you are expecting. I'm not even going to bother calling them if it's gets beyond expected approval time. I will most likely just use my Congressman. I have everything ready to go for it. It's disappointing but they don't take our inquiries as petitioners seriously. Their responses are never consistent.

I called the customer service line today and spoke with a representative who told me that they are working on the Jan 1st applications. Its like watching paint dry.

Yup. I remember when we had that whole 8.5 months scare about a month ago, and the same inconsistent responses were happening. Honestly, it's not even worth calling the service line. It will only frustrate you. The whole thing is designed to be scripted responses. You will never get an accurate answer. Everyone is better off just waiting it out. And then going the congressional or senatorial route. That's what I'm planning at this point because based on an interview with a former adjudicator, it at least forces a pull of the file. The petitioner initiated service requests are just about useless too. So all we can really do is wait and hope we get lucky before the 5 months. I'll probably submit my inquiry if I don't hear anything by the 15th of June (one week outside of my VJ timeline estimate). I'm still very shocked that we're dealing with this as January filers. It's very confusing. And hopefully the next 2 weeks become more consistent with VSC's adjudication rates for June in all the past years....We shall see..

Aside from a block of early Jan approvals (a few weeks ago), everything recently has been scattered... Dec, Nov, some mid and late Jan (likely the late and easy approvals, and easy to detect RFE's)... I suspect they will start moving through Jan in a more systematic order now as the 5 months is moving through the month, and working the way through the month so they do not fall too far behind.

EDIT: Don't really know what i'm talking about... just talking!

I agree with you L+T. They have an average processing time of 5 months... so in reality the only ones that are late being processed as of today are those filed Jan 2 and prior. I think everyone on this board is just getting anxious (as am I) because we are soooo close now. Hang in there everyone, by the end of this month we should all have approvals! :)

Actually, you might be right. The pattern of approvals lately does seem to align with this. Hopefully, now they can get us out of the way with a more consistent approach. At least it has to be our month now. There really isn't any other option with the 5 month processing time goal and many many more months of petitions to work on after us.

Well we went on the attack yesterday.

Filed a congressional enquiry

Launched an enquiry with the ombudsman

Contacted the USCIS to raise a service request (They said no, but we at least have a reference for it)

Emailed VSC on their DOHS followup email address

Hopefully this will make SOME motions at least

Good for you photomile. I know some people always say to just keep sitting around. 5 months is 5 months. why not make some waves? There have been numerous references to the fact that a congressional inquiry forces them to pull the file.

"Glad to help. Anyway, a "Congressional Inquiry" or "congressional" is a formal inquiry by a member of Congress made on behalf of their constituent. Any federal agency that receives a Congressional inquiry has 48 hours to respond to the member of Congress. Each Service Center has a special office to handle "Congressionals". That's their sole purpose in life is to keep the member of Congress informed upon request.

(i.e. Senator Numbnuts says "CIS - I understand from my constituent - Mr. Hotn'bothered that (according to him) you have been processing his application for his dear fiancé in a less than timely manner. Can you please look into this matter and let my office know when it will be approved.")

System usually says - "pull and work file immediately" 'Nuff said."

So if it's not too complicated I can't see why an adjudicator wouldn't get it out of the way. According to the adjudicator who answered some questions here in the past, it does have an effect. It's unfortunate that any of us have to even consider doing all this. I never thought things would get this way for January since it's usually a month with fewer petitions submitted. But hopefully, you'll have some good news soon. I would think that they don't receive a significant number of these inquiries because the average filer is not aware of such options. Even on this website alone only a few members end up having to submit an inquiry. Hopefully you'll receive some good news very soon. If I don't here anything by Friday June 15th, I will be doing the same. Even if it doesn't have an effect, at least I'll feel like I've done something. There's really nothing to lose at that point.

Good job, photomile! :) I would've done the same thing if I was one day over the five month mark (they made it with about a week to spare lol). I totally agree with the above post as well. We elect these members of congress to work for us and we pay taxes for these government agencies to work efficiently. If I were an adjudicator, I would definitely make sure to clear the file out of anyone who complained, it's like someone reporting you for bad customer service.

Good luck!!
