Great time at the Social Security office today, only 5 minute wait to reach the desk... Very funny though, we go up and place the application, passport, and MC (with name change) on the desk and I say new applicatant with name change (this is all!!). She starts looking at the documents and the guard comes over to us and ask if she can speak english, and she say "yes, ok". Then he tell me to let her talk and answer the questions and I say ok, but "she hasn't asked any questions", and he say "well, it seems like your doing all the talking".

OK, so thay ask her "have you been here before" and Lidia is like "what"? (of coarse i know what she means, but keep quiet) and she ask real slow have.... you.... been.... here.... before....? And lidia say "what do you mean". Have.... you.... been.... in.... the.... USA.... before? Oh, No. "Is this your first time applying?" What? Have you had a card before? What? Is this your first time application for SS card? "Oh, yes, first time. (laughing to myself by now). "Do you have work authorization"? "Confused look. Do you have a work card? Looks at me. Couldn't take it anymore and tell her we have not yet applied AOS. (thinking back, i should have just let them two work it out...) :innocent:

Anyway, 2-4 weeks to get card in case you are wondering.

Yes, true, the Kiev website said they don't mail out the package because all info is online, they simply mail out the invitation to make interview along with checklist on what to bring. Well, payday tomorrow, time to muster up some money and see what is needed for AOS... at least the SS card was free.

PS, Texas, hoping for you today on Big Thursday!! Gotta be the day...

This thread is so busy and everybody at different stages, I can't keep up!

Either way, congratulations on your nuptials! Very happy for you and Lidia!

I have to say though, I hate going to the SS office. Glad you got in fast, but they can be real annoying sometimes. Half the time, I don't even know what they are talking about.

About the SSN,

I have one already but it says "valid for work only with DHS authorization"

DO you guys think they will let me keep that number&card and give me just a new one with no limitations? (Once I recieve the work authorization)

Anyone here who already has american SSN card?

How did you guys do it? I'm at 199 days and I'm about to lose my mind. Between CSC processing JUNE applicants and people from end of February getting their NOA2s. I am lost and forgotten. I've tried distracting myself and not logging into VJ or USCIS, but I just don't get it. Of the 53 petitions from 2/7 I'm tracking, 40 are done. Seriously, how hard is it to get to the other 10 for the love the almighty sweet baby Jesus, I'm about to go stark raving mad!!!!! cray5ol.gif

Any advice? No response from Congresspeople or Senators or Justin Bieber, nor will they allow me to put in a service request 'cause you all know this one...they are still processing "Jan. 16th!"

Yes, the SS card was no problem. We waited because the name change is part of the Marriage License, and did not waste time for marriage. This saved the trouble of making the name change with SS. However, the card / number may be useful in advance if you are waiting a couple months for wedding. ie, if you need for driver license or benefits on spouse insurance. Lidia has foreign license good for 1 year in my state, and my benefits at work did not require the number to sign up...
