Update: We received the RFE from Vermont today. My fiance had filed his divorce paper that he received from the county clerk's office. It was stamped and sealed and everything, but apparently they want the "Final Divorce Decree" only. Fortunately he has a copy of it (all 33 pages) and we are sending it back to them by overnight express tomorrow.

The RFE also states that from the date they receive our submission, it will take a minimum of 14 days to process the form, and if we haven't heard from them within 60 days, we may contact them. :bonk::blink::whistle:

Was the stamped and seal version after the final waiting period? Usually they are looking for that 1 or 2 page report stating the divorce is "final and absolute". ie, a waiting period is satisified. However all states handle this different, so perhaps in Texas the 33 pages is the final decree after all waiting period is clear? but this is the termenology they are looking for (final, or absolute). Typically this long document is the terms of divorce and another final statement is issued or available after any such waiting period. Like I said, all states are different. My "long" document was filed Oct 1st, however, the final decree (1 page) was not available until dec 31st.

His divorce was final in 2007, so the 33 page decree was done then... and it is titled: "Final Divorce Decree". What he got from the county clerk's office they are calling a "Divorce Nisi" and is not considered to be evidence of a final divorce.

Ah good. I guess different states, different rules. My nisi was the long agreement, and final decree was 1 page stampped. But yes, the nisi is prior to waiting period and final is the one they are looking for which legally terminated marriage.
