I think it's a common mistake...I almost did the same thing. But my attorney caught it...I guess they did something right...I guess state one is what they always want. has anyone received approval with the other version?

the hospital issued form (although often called a birth certificate is more of a birth record). It is typically the long form as several people have mentioned here. The difference between birth certificates and birth records is the fact that birth records are the uncertified versions of the certificate. What this means is that both have the same information, however, the uncertified record cannot be used for legal proceedings, so USCIS asks for the state certified record.

Maybe they won't notice. Or the adjudicator is in a very good mood that day. .. Wish they would just get moving on these petitions so people can move forward and address things like this. It's a small technicality, and the directions did not explain it very well...you're positive that the certificate was not state certified? it was directly from the hospital?

Yes, we are all going to send lots MORE good vibes to VSC so that the adjudicator is just in la-la happy mood when they look at yours! Haha. Boy, am I glad that Missouri doesn't have two kinds! No hospital version of anything for anyone...just one state one so no confusion!

is it possible to shed some light on this issue of RFE and Birth cert... it hink its stupid to give an RFE for that after someone waited for 6 months, besides, isnt it the same information on both. Im starting to worry cause it seems like we sent the hospital version

I don't want to make you panic my friend, but the RFE I got said they could not use the one I sent as proof of my US citizenship... Crazy huh? I am from PA originally. Paul is correct, the hospital birth cert. is technically a "record" of birth. In PA, it is 2 pages and has more information on it than that state cert. So, when I read "long version" in the paperwork, I assumed it was the correct one. Never thinking (logically now) that they would obviously want the state record. Funny thing is the hospital cert has a raised seal and everything, the state one seems too simple.

If the USC sends in copies of their passport you are ok too. In my RFE response I sent back the state cert and all of my passport. I hope if you made the same mistake, they over-look it, but I think proof of US citizenship is not easily overlooked. I was 5 months and 3 weeks when I got my RFE. Seems like no mercy over there, sorry to say. I wish you luck

The hospital one will typically have the name of the hospital on it, and sometimes the baby's footprints. It is usually signed by someone in the hospital, like a director. Your state birth cert. should have the state crest something on it. It will be signed by a state official. Thinking of you. Hoping for no RFE.

okay. what is happening at VSC? this has seriously been one of the slowest weeks for approval in a very long time...things are bad...i really wish someone could give us some answers...I guess it's off to the senator now...i'm feeling pretty certain my Congressman got a relatively canned response..still not a word from them...not good.

Haha. I am replying to this part so that I don't copy the whole thing again...haha. But this looks basically like the only birth certificate I have...and that's what I sent in. Different state but all of the same info...the other one is completely foreign to me, no clue about that green one. I wouldn't worry...I am thinking that the other thing has more details like height, weight, maybe hair and eye color, footprints, etc. I don't know since we don't have them but I have heard of them...here in Honduras, the long form includes witnesses who testify that the info is correct and the parents' names, national ID numbers, and occupations are listed. But no, this looks just like mine which is not a hospital form. Maybe you can google a long form or hospital type one and look at the differences?
