Mocking people whose marriages ended qualifies as mean spirited.

Its still in the forum, but it was made hidden due to personal attacks. Gary was talking about something and then I believe it was Rob who jumped in and launched a personal attack at Gary kind of out of the blue. So Gary responded with an attack on Rob's previous marriage. Rob fired back about Gary's previous marriage, which Gary responded by saying his previous wife died of cancer to make Rob look like a cold hearted jerk.

It was a back and forth in a now deleted thread but I do remember this comment by you because of the cancer comment- and I can remember thinking ' what a messed up thing to say to score a point on the internet'.

I have over 19,000 posts on this site and about 15,000 of them are helping others with the immigration process. Mean spirited? Seriously? How may people who regularly post in the P&R forum also regularly post in the forums helping others? I especiallyalways go out of my way to help people with chiuldren because I know from experience that is hard to get information on since the process seems to be geared toward 20 somethings that met on the internet and not people with children. Yeah, Gary the meanie, helping kids and stuff

I'd say it's more like 15000 posts in P&R and RUB, and in about half of those you completely disrespect the woman you are supposedly "knocked out" by.

And the 4000 left over for the upper forums are either about half-wrong or full of snark.

The reality is that in a board that has been around for as long as VJ has, there are bound to be members whose marriages have ended. The same could be said of any forum, but because the majority of posters on here joined because of marriage or engagement, one's marital status is given perhaps more emphasis than on another board.

Personally, I wouldn't publicly gloat about anyone's marriage ending, no matter what the circumstances. It's exceedingly bad form and makes you look like a weirdo. Every single ending of a marriage hints at tragedy, hurt and disappointment -- of circumstances we don't know. My marriage ended -- why do you care? As some are wont to say: Stay out of my bedroom.

Further, some ask -- why stay on VJ after your entanglement with USCIS is over? Well, that's been answered many times. Many of us have been on here for years and have friendships with and fondness for other members. We can still share our knowledge of procedure, and knowledge of how to get certain foodstuffs and whatnot in the US. We can talk participate in political debate, film threads, food threads, immigration threads. If I had joined an IT board, but had stopped working in IT -- barely did more than boot up my laptop and futz about on the internet -- would I suddenly be a pariah on that board? I'd say, unlikely.

VJ appears to have a dark, mean, petty streak in it recently, something along the lines of "I got mine, so suck it losers!!!" that permeates so many threads. Be happy for what you have. Be thankful too. Ward off menaces. Take care of your own. Do good because it is the right thing to do.

And for goodness' sake, grow up and stop mocking each other for what they have and don't have. Except when it comes to intelligence. That's still fair play.
