Especially since pulling out is harder and does not feel as good. Seems like double punishment.

I can count on one finger the times I've left it in there. It's just not worth it.

I would be in favor of a test to prevent basically stupid people from voting. How about you? We could use the citizenship test given to immigrants before they can vote. 10 questions from the list of 100, randomly chosen. Must score 60% correct. My wife has to take the test before she can vote. Maybe everyone should.

Not that old bag again. Newt wouldn't have a single vote if stupid people were not eligible to vote. Jim DeMint would no longer be a US Senator - none of the people that put him into office, including himself, would be eligible to vote. Hell, the majority of Americans wouldn't be eligible to vote.

Everyone on VJ would!

No sort of litmus test at all? Are you sure about that...what if a person just has to answer one question right? How many soldiers would it take for Guam to capsize?

Yes, I am sure. As I said, most Americans would be ineligible to vote if they had to pass the simple civics test every immigrant has to pass to be naturalized. In some places, almost nobody would be able to vote.

...only 3.5 percent of traditional public high school students would be able to pass a U.S. citizenship test— bombing out on questions such as who was America's first president, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and what do we call the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.
Almost every Oklahoma public high school student failed a basic citizenship test based on a recent telephone survey. Only one in four could name the country's first president.

In fact, only 2.8 percent of the students correctly answered six of 10 questions. Candidates for U.S. citizenship are required to answer six of 10 questions correctly to become citizens. The success rate for immigrants taking the latest citizenship test was 92.4 percent.

On second thought, if essentially only naturalized citizens would be eligible to vote, maybe there would be some sanity restored to the US political system.

If only 10% of the population voted under my new law then so be it; voting should be a privilege.

So do you think it is a good idea or not?

You're a good American. How do I know? Well, based on the above, you'd fail the test, too. See, immigrants are told that voting is not only a right but a duty. I take it that based on your strong stance on the issue you will forthwith abstain from casting your vote. Thank you. :)

49. What is one responsibility that is only for United States citizens?*

▪ serve on a jury

vote in a federal election

50. Name one right only for United States citizens.

vote in a federal election

▪ run for federal office

We can disagree and still be friends. I can't count on one finger the times I have left it in there ...today.

I don't think that it's a good idea. In fact, it's a terrible idea. An un-American idea, even. It would be contrary to the values and ideals of this country in which participation in the democratic process - voting being an essential part of that - is a right and duty of a citizen. Every citizen.

Then why did you say what you did earlier in this thread?

Nope. See above. Our resident "Director of Intellectual Capital" would not. He's unfamiliar with very basic concepts on which this country is build.

Reading comprehension, not a fan? I spoke of how things should be not how they are.

Should the voter IYO show any sort of competency other than being able to read and write?
