its a male and no you can't but you can request a female employee present at the time of exam. There is no internal. Its very quick and non invasive. My mother was in the room and it was not awkward.

As previously posted, the doctor is male but when I had my exam a few weeks ago a female nurse was present in the room.

05-11-2016: Interview (passed!)

06-27-2016: Oath ceremony-->I'm a US citizen!

07-18-2014: Biometrics appointment

11-18-2014: Case transferred to CSC

02-24-2015: ROC approved!!

You don't get a choice. You have to let the male physician do their job. There'll be a female nurse in the room for the 'intimate' part of the exam, and you can have a chaperone if you want. I found it both embarassing AND awkward, but it doesn't take long before it's over.
