I just did mine this week. I went to my local police headquarters and said I needed the Canada-wide background check for immigration purposes. I filled out the form and paid the fee ($30). She handed me a blue copy of the form and my receipt, and I asked if I should wait or would it be mailed to me... She laughed at me and said the blue sheet is it! I was in and out in about 5 minutes.

It might depend on where in Canada you are located. I'm in Ontario, and it was easy-peasy.

Hope that helps.

This depends on where you live in Canada and whether or not you have a criminal record. The time it takes can vary from 5 minutes to a few weeks. Here is some information on the police certificate: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Canada#Police_Checks

I live in Ontario and just went to my local police station and asked for a CPIC certificate. They redirected me to another police station where they do the checks and it only took me 5 minutes to get mine and $50. The police check is good for one year so you probably want to get it around NOA2/packet 3.

I was from Nova Scotia. I went to the local RCMP station and told them I needed a Canada wide police clearance. I filled out the application, also the one for registered sex offender. It was free. I had the results back the very next day and they gave me 2 certified copies.

I'm in Calgary. Went to local Police Station, completed form, paid $30.00. They said it would take 4-6 weeks but she said that her colleagues had said it had speeded up recently. Don't know if that means it's nearer 4 weeks or quicker (didn't ask as I didn't think I'd get a useful answer). I asked for 2 copies as I had read on here that people had paid a little extra and got 2 copies, so she just wrote on the top 2 copies. Also I needed two forms of government ID, one with a photo.

It sounds like the procedure is the same but the speed of getting the certificate depends on where you live.

Our record in BC was clean and took 5 minutes here as well.

I'm getting one done at Commissionaires (full background check with fingerprints, photos taken, all former surnames, whole nine)...fee is like $63 but turnaround time is pretty quick (RCMP in Manitoba do them, but it takes forever to go through the RCMP while the Commissionaires use the same database as they do and it takes a week). Had one done before for work and it was OK - it's a big form with my fingerprints on it and all the details. Is this even right for the consulate, if I indicate it's for "Immigration"?
