Hi,

I just started the 6 months period before my green card expires.

I just read some posts about renmoving conditions...

I don't really know what I'm supposed to do or fill out.

Do I have to send my renewal form before removing the conditions?

For info: I came in the US with a Fiance Visa. I got my green card in June 2010. It will expire in June 2012.

I don't understand those forms and conditions and renewal and what I'm supposed to do first.

Thank you for your help.

EDIT: We had no idea about this and didn't really put anything together for the past 2 years. We have bills, insurance and pictures but myabe not for the past 2 years

You need to file the I-751 to remove conditions no more than 90 days before your green card expires. I'm not sure how you didn't know since this fact is included in the information when you receive your green card but send the evidence you have.

I just didn't pay attention to all the ####### they send with it and I thought renewing the GC was enough even if they had asked for proof.

What happen then to my job/ driver's license if they don't approve it fast enough?

It is just stressing me to know that is up to them to decide if our marriage is true or not.

And if approved, I still have to wait another 6 months after to apply for new green card?

You'll also want to check out the USCIS' instructions on their website, here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=f858d59cb7a5d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

File 90 days before your green card will expire. Don't send it in early (before the 90 days prior) but I recommend sending it in at least a week before your GC expires so they receive it in time. There's no "renewal" form to fill out - just the I-751. You mentioned that you haven't been saving documents for the past 2 years but you'd be surprised how much you can probably come up with. Any joint accounts you have together (bank, insurance) should be able to issue you old statements from the past 2 years which you can print out and mail in. USCIS wants to see legitimate evidence over the course of the past two years so if you only send the current month's statements, you'll probably receive an RFE. Proof of same address is also important: copies of lease signed together, mortgages, are always great evidence. If your license both show the same address, copy that and send it in. Do you have each other listed as beneficiaries on 401k accounts or each other's life/health insurance? Send that in. If you feel your evidence is lacking, get some friends and family to write affidavits.

When you file, you'll get an NOA1 which will extend the conditional green card status for 1 year. You should be able to use this to extend the driver's license and you can definitely use it to travel outside of the US (some DMV's have denied the letter as evidence but some have accepted it).

And if approved, I still have to wait another 6 months after to apply for new green card?

Not sure what you mean here. If you're approved for the I-751 application, you'll receive a 10-year GC so no need to reapply again in 6 months.

Thanks a lot. I was also wondering if it matters how much stuff you need to send them and if everyone gets an interview and if they are fast to treat the renewal.

You were right for the 6 months question. I thought I had to pay for removal and then 6 months later another $500 for the GC...

Not everyone gets an interview. Most don't. As for how fast, depends on the service center. Vermont service center is taking 7+ months now but some are quicker.

spend time reading through the threads in this forum. it will help you understand the process better. you can see what people experience (ie forgotten signature, too little evidence, withholding information, divorce, death, interview, travel after GC expiry, etc.)

try the search function to find answers to questions you may have.

and be sure to stay organized and read the fine print!
