I'm concerned about Inna having to stand outside for a few hours if the weather gets really cold (-10f would not be unusual). Does anyone have any ideas about how to handle this situation?

How about letting her be a big girl and figure it out on her own?

Unless she's from the tropical part of Russia, she's probably fully aware of what it takes to survive Russian winter.

(Please don't take this personally but) Some of you guys act like you're sponsoring a six-year-old girl. These women have lived through conditions most of us could only dream of and they don't need to be saved from everything all the sudden just because you've decided to import a bride. If you're going to cater to her every need and desire she's going to run you into the ground.

Assist. But don't "help." They're grown ups. They were grown ups before you discovered their profile. They'll be grown ups when they get here (if you'll let them.)

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

Yes Slim, that's correct. I honor the intentions to help but don't be dad, be husband.

Check out the Sticky at the top of this forum. Scroll down a bit and there's a link to a nice detailed map and photos of the Embassy, the Medical facilities, DHL. etc.

Speaking of DHL (and UPS) I hear Russia has made life tough for them. Seems only FedEx was willing to pay the government "fees" to operate in the motherland. They started looking for shipping violations and found (created?) some. I also heard UPS won't ship to Russian residential locations any longer. I heard this second hand.

Anyone else heard about this?

Last I heard that stuff had to be handed off to the local post to be checked and/or delivered and too much was "lost" for them to be profitable so they just got out all together.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I feel better now that I know she doesn't have to get there so early in the morning. We talked today about the cold and waiting outside and of course, I'm the only one who is concerned about it. She said she would arrive about 0700.

She is a strange combination of tough as nails but also Princessa Innessa. :D

:ot:

Talking about waiting in line reminded of my first time in Ukraine. I get off the bus to the terminal and get in line at passport control. I'm in the first 1/3 of the line. I look down and get my papers together and make sure I have everything I need. I look back up and now I'm at the back of the line. #######!

Everyone in the US (outside NYC) is so polite about queing up. But in Russia people are so rude and pushy. At first I hated it. Now I look forward to being there so I can push people out of the way!

Okay... Its my first post here, but your comments had me laughing... even if its off topic, its halarious and brings back memories of my last 2 trips to Russia. I too had to get used to pushing like everyone else, or I would ALWAYS be last in line.

I think my sweetheart thinks its funny (or it just drives her crazy)... She was always grabbing me by the hand and pulling me so I don't miss the bus or train. I would always let the ladies or ones in a hurry go before me. I am sure I looked rather awkward.

However, I must say; Boarding the airplanes seems so crazy to me. It's such a "free for all" there... Not like the smaller groups or zones we have in the US... But I would fight those lines in second to see her again... Bring on the K-1!!!
