Got a stamp at POE, but it doesn't say I-551

I've been reading here that one is supposed to get an I-551 stamp at the POE, and that can serve as a temporary green card. Well, my passport got a Department of Homeland Security stamp, but it only says "Admitted Jan 17 2012, CR1, until Jan 16 2014." Is that the I-551 stamp, even though "I-551" isn't anywhere on it? Thanks in advance for the replies!

Yup, that's the I-551 stamp. I just looked at my own passport, and it doesn't say I-551 either. It says the same as yours (although I don't see an "until" date).

The visa they put in your passport is the I-551 and when they stamp your passport with admitted and a date at the POE then that activates it.

Actually this is incorrect.... The visa is just a visa. It is what let's you enter the US.... The stamp is the I-551....

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi, Darnell! Yes, I just looked at my passport again, and the date on the stamp is Jan 16, 2014. So yes, two years. That's unusual? It's a CR1 visa stamp.

Intersting how you got 2 year stamp... normally it is only 1 year stamp.

As long as it says admitted until this MM/DD/YYYY and CR1 you are good to go.

I have no idea why she gave me a 2-year stamp. I just looked at my passport again, and it does say 2014. So, lucky me, I guess?
