I had my k-1 visa interview at the vancouver consulate January 6 and was approved the same day. They told me DHL would contact me in a few days so i could go to DHL in the richmond branch and pick up my visa. Its been exactly 2 weeks today since being approved, im a little worried I havent been contacted yet. I check my email everyday and my junk mail but nothing. I Got nothing either like a tracking number or anything from the consulate for DHL. what should i do? im a little lost and worried now..

thanks!

JessicaDiana,

Have you already registered for DHL, you should right away if you haven't. You should call DOS to find out the status of your visa.

Hi - my fiancé had his interview on 12/15/11. Like you, he was approved on the spot and told he could expect his Visa in about a week via Chronopost. We also began to worry when 2 wks later he still hadn't received it. And like you, no tracking number was showing. On the 15th day, he called the embassy and found out that apparently, no Visas get sent out during the Christmas/New Year season. Nice of them NOT to mention that when he was there!!! So, my advice is that you contact them. The embassy in Paris charges about 14 Euros for calling with questions, but for the peace of mind, it was totally worth it. Good luck!!! (P.S. The Visa arrived 3 days later.)

Call 202-663-1225 (DOS) and speak with a Visa Specialist. With your NVC case number and other details only either the Petitioner, Beneficiary or your lawyer would know and see if your Visa was issued to DHL yet or what is going on.

DOS means Department of State. They can somewhat view your case status (whether or not packet 4 has been issued, if your visa is printed yet etc.) but I would like to emphasize that the telephone specialists at DoS have been known to give varying answers as to what stage your visa is in after the interview. Someone will say the visa has been printed, while the person you get the next day will say it's in advanced processing (AP), etc. etc. Unless there is a good reason to suspect your visa is in AP (for example, you were born outside of Canada in a country in the middle east) chances are they're just saying it because they don't know what else to say. Department of State only has a limited amount of information so sometimes the answers they give sound a lot scarier than what's actually going on.

When you signed up on the website to book your interview it should've asked you to register with DHL. If you log in to the website and it says "DHL branch: <wherever you want it to go>" then you have successfully registered for DHL. If you haven't registered yet there should be an option somewhere in the menu to do so- do this ASAP.

I don't know what it's like to get in touch with Vancouver but they're probably more accessible than Montreal so I would certainly try calling them or e-mailing them (give 2-3 days for e-mail) and make sure to include your case number and contact information in the e-mail.

I made a guide but I guess it's useless. Anyway, here's what I wrote about DHL/Vancouver consulate:

The second biggest pain in the butt other than waiting for your NOA2. The staff at the Vancouver Consulate give extremely confusing and inaccurate instructions about how to get your Waybill. The waybill doesn’t show up until your passport has been processed and the Visa has been put in. If you left your e-mail DHL should send you updates/tracking numbers but they weren’t always accurate. Just keep logging into the http://canada.usvisa-info.com website until your waybill shows up.

The people at the consulate tell you it's going to be a couple of days. They lie. Its at least 2 weeks if not more. If your waybill shows up when you log on that site then your visa should be ready to be picked up.

Also want to note that the CSC website has been known to not display the waybill number or to display it much later than when the visa arrived at DHL. I first found out about my visa when DHL e-mailed me to let me know my visa would arrive soon. Then they called me. I only saw the waybill number very briefly on the CSC website a couple days after I picked up my visa. That said ensure that the telephone number and email on the CSC website are accurate so DHL can contact you.

hi there! I am from Richmond too! Mine took about...10 business days (and there was a holiday in between...) to get to the Richmond DHL. I was also approved the day of the interview. Don't worry, it is coming. I know exactly how you are feeling :)
