Hello. I'm currently in the process of revising my initial I-129F packet for my fiancee. She was working as a child care provide (Au Pair), but is now back in Japan to receive medical attention that she needs. I have 3 questions - I am mainly concerned if my proofs are not strong enough.

  • I am attaching a copy of my Certificate of Naturalization. Would it be better if I include a copy of all pages of my U.S. passport as well?
  • Proof of having met within the last 2 years. I included copies of email itineraries from Expedia for flight and hotel to the vacation spots that we went to; and photos from each trip. Do I need to attach the actual flight tickets or hotel receipts? I'm not sure if I retained those :(
  • Proof of ongoing relationship. I included few pages of copies of skype chat log - but most of it is in Japanese grr... is that good enough? I also included a copy of the dated letters that I received from my fiancee, again, also in Japanese grr... I am planning to print few pages of email exchanges as well.

I am trying to build a very solid piece of evidence for having met within 2 years, and of ongoing relationship. I'd appreciate any suggestions that you can give. Thanks a lot for your help!

The objective in the I-129F is to prove you have personally met at least one time within the last 2 years prior to the petition filing. I would suggest copying all pages of your passport including the front and back cover and highlighting the passport stamps showing entry and departure to and from Japan.

Itineraries don't necessarily prove you went on the plane. Copies of the actual ticket stubs are much better and yes hotel receipts especially if they have your name on them. Send copies not originals. Write the names of the people in the photos the date they were taken and the location on the back of each one.

Proof of an ongoing relationship isn't needed for I-129F approval however some believe its a good idea to send some with the I-129F. Include a short explanation of how you met and dates you went to see her for part B question 18. Anything you put in this answer should be proved with your evidence i.e. ticket stubs etc as previously mentioned. Letters are good proof especially if you have the envelope they came in because it will have been officially date stamped by the post office.

Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Include copies of your passport stamps. I believe that you do not need the actual flight receipts but u may need to show actual email receipts or something similar for proof. Although keep in mind that the counsel can actually ask for the original ones.

As far as your chat logs I don't think it matter whether it's in Japanese or not as long as the counsel can see the dates and times and the consistency of the chat logs. During my fiance's interview we were never asked to show any chat logs as the pictures. We provided was sufficient enough. I would also recommend not just printing a few copies out. If you can print out all emails I sugget you do it. Having a lot of chat logs and emails for the counsel to look at can be overwhelming and will increase your chances of showing the counsel that it's genuine.

Good luck
