Variety of general questions

Hello fellow VJers,

I'm 4 months into the waiting period for the verdict on my I-130 packet. In the meantime, I would like to ask questions so that my spouse and I can be prepared as much as we possibly could for the (hopefully) next step. At the same time, in the back of our minds, we wish, hope and pray that we will be approved of the I-130. Still we want to be prepared.

I did read through 4 different guides and I made a list of these questions. Please pardon my bombardment of many questions.

1) Does my wife in Indonesia need a police certificate? If so, where would she need to get it, in her home town in Kuningan, West Java or big capital city Jakarta?

2) I see on some guides, people have listed the item: "long" birth certificate. What do they mean precisely with the word, "long"?

3) is the DS-230 and Of-230 the same form?

4) Is it me (petitioner) who has to fill out the DS-230 form?

5) Does my wife need to physically mail me the DS-230 form here in the USA? Or can she email or fax it to me? I know it says that it requires her signature.

6) Do I need to physically mail the I-864 form to my wife in Indonesia? Or can I just email or fax it to her?

7) Regarding the "agent of choice," could I (the petitioner) be the agent of choice?

Thank you all so very much in advance for your time. Take care.

Ryan

My answers in bold.

1) Does my wife in Indonesia need a police certificate? If so, where would she need to get it, in her home town in Kuningan, West Java or big capital city Jakarta?

Requires Indonesia specific answer.

2) I see on some guides, people have listed the item: "long" birth certificate. What do they mean precisely with the word, "long"?

Long birth certificate defined in this link.

3) is the DS-230 and Of-230 the same form?

Never heard of Of-230.

4) Is it me (petitioner) who has to fill out the DS-230 form?

No, that form is filled out by the beneficiary. The petitioner can fill it out but must do so from the beneficiary's perspective (i.e. insert beneficiary info).

5) Does my wife need to physically mail me the DS-230 form here in the USA? Or can she email or fax it to me? I know it says that it requires her signature.

Original signature required, she needs to send you the physical form.

6) Do I need to physically mail the I-864 form to my wife in Indonesia? Or can I just email or fax it to her?

You, the petitioner, fill out that form and send it to the NVC. I-864 pertains to the petitioner's financial information.

7) Regarding the "agent of choice," could I (the petitioner) be the agent of choice?

Yes

I just did the research on your number 1 yesterday...No

http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9216#docs

Police Records

Unavailable for applicants inside and outside Indonesia. Indonesian police certificates require initial processing at a local or village level, which is nonstandard in nature, can be subject to capricious decisions by officials and may require nonofficial payments to proceed further."
