I AM NOT THAT GUY

How about shortening the limit on the size of posts and signatures?

I would think about 60 lines for the the main body of a post, and 10 lines for the signature should be enough.

I turned off signatures. All that glitter gives me a headache.

ETA: Limiting the width would be nice as well.

At the last moderator's meeting we did set a limit on signature size. Formerly the site used to limit the size by its requirements but the most recent update removed that limitation. We have received a number of complaints from individuals who do not have fast computers that their systems freeze up with large signature posts and it is hard for them to avoid them except by turning off the signature function. So, Captain Ewok has set a limit of no more than half of a screen size can be taken up by a signature. Any signatures larger than that need to be reduced, either in size or by removing elements. We also have limited the inclusion of YouTube videos to no more than one YouTube video in a signature as well.

This really is an issue of courtesy and consideration for fellow VJ members. Not everyone has access to a computer system that can handle the large amount of data contained in big signatures, so we do request everyone to keep this in mind when they create their signatures. If a signature is too big, we will contact the member , ask them to reduce the size of their signature and give them a time frame in which to do it. Most people comply, although there have been a few cases where Captain Ewok has had to step in and make the necessary corrections.

I had to turn sigs off for this same reason. I actually had to report someone once for an obscenely long sig (K1 - ROC plus about 10 pics), which is why mine is actually pretty small, just a couple of links.

As for limiting post length disagree. Sometimes advice needs a longer post. If it relates to the OP they actually read it. If you restricted post length we'd probably just end up with people posted 5 times in a row to get their point across. That'd be a pain to moderate. If it's too long, just ignore it. Nothing making you read it.

I think should limit post size and quoting size in the lower forums - leave the upper Immigration forums alone.

Do we really need to continue the practice of quoting an entire missive/tome/article from elsewhere, when:

1. a link would suffice and

2. the op's comments on said topic (rarely given) would be more useful ?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You could always take screenshots of text and post them as an image to get around the word count. That's what I do. whistling.gif

It actually should be reduced because it does take up a full screen. If you could reduce size by half that would be great - I just haven't got around to addressing all of the big signatures yet . . but since you brought it up :D . (I like it too - but would like it a whole lot more if it were smaller, please and thank you :) ).

No, the software no longer resizes the images. When the original signature restrictions were set the software did resize images but it stop doing that two upgrades ago, thus our request for members to size them more appropriately themselves. We appreciate everyone's consideration.

The Empress of Groovy has been very accommodating of our requests with regards to her signature. There is currently no limitation on 'sparkly' and I believe, that was one of her main concerns :D.
