Ok I was trying to read through all the posts in here but I am a little confused... Does anyone know how many of the certified copies of my birth cert will I really need for the whole process and are the ordinary copies not enough? I have one original certified copy and the translation so the question is: should I get more or should I just make ordinary copies of them and that will be enough?

Thanks

From what i know normal copies are enough. you want the original birth certificate or a official extract of your birth certificate present when you have an interview. i believe as long as you have a legible copy of these you should be ok. I believe that cerified copise are no longer necessary. Iam doing DCF through the Us embasssy in naples got to website of the us embassy of the country you are filing through or check your countryies portal on this website.

good luck!

1 original, many copies of the original. If you have access to a copy machine you can make as many as you want. KEEP the original

Keep the original and when you go to things like AOS interviews or citizenship interviews, bring the original with you for them to inspect IF they ask, but always get it back.

We have our citizenship interview in 13 days  and I have all our original documents to take (birth, marriage, etc.) EACH with a copy (I included copies with the application, but why not?) If they ask I hand them the original with a copy paper clipped to it and ask them to return the original. So far they have not asked. I did this at the visa interview and AOS interview also. I just go in there with my expandable folder and open it if they ask, if not I take it back home.

That definitely makes sense, I thought of that too, just needed a confirmation that this is sufficient. Great!

Well good luck in 13 days time :)looks like you are almost there! :)

1 original and one translation original is good enough. Make several copies as you will need them for later. You would need to show original at interview, but make sure you get it back, they should make their own copy and keep that one.
