Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has ever been denied entry at the airport when returning to the USA with a 2-year Green Card (not expired, of course :))

Last time I traveled to my country with my husband, when we came back we made the BIG mistake of going through separate queues and they took me for further questioning - it seems they let me go when my husband got worried and started asking the guards where I was. From what they said I have the suspicion they have a flag on my file or something - I got a DHS home visit back when I was doing my AOS, but everything went fine and my GC interview was very easy.

I have been avoiding travel because I was very worried about being questioned again when returning to the US, but now I have a medical emergency and am going back to my country to have it taken care of, not going is not an option and my husband cannot accompany me because his job wouldn't allow him enough time off. I am very worried I might have problems when I come back since this time I am traveling alone. We are even considering having him come pick me up all the way in Italy, but that would be a bit extreme and he would rather avoid it if he can :(

How long will you be gone for? Usually you'll only be questioned like that if you are gone a long time and they are suspicious as to whether you are maintaining residency.

I am only going for 3 weeks. Last time I was out of the country for only 2 weeks but I got questioned anyway :(

Let's hope they have ammended your file and you will not get extra questions. Just make sure your ticket matches your passport and if your GC name is different, bring along a certified copy of the marriage certificate with the new name. You may also want to have extra layover time just in case. If they really give you a hard time have them contact your husband. Just be friendly and nice and most of the time you get thru without too much trouble.

Good luck,

Dave

Thank you Dave :)

I have the same name on passport and GC so hopefully that shouldn't be a problem. And I made sure to have my layover in Europe so I will go through US immigration at my destination port - so even if they question me for a while it's not a huge problem, as long as they eventually let me through ><
